Which straight legs? - YouLookFab Forum

After lots of looking around, I finally came across two pairs of straight-leg jeans that might fit the bill (I am short and curvy, with short thighs, and straight legs are difficult for me).

Pair 1: Silver's Avery fit in the eco-friendly wash, in short inseam.
Pair 2: J. Crew's curvy fit, vintage straight, in the petite sizing.

I sized up one size in both pairs to get that "effortless" French chic look.

Which pair do you think looks better?
Which length do you prefer?
Is one of these OK, or should I keep looking?

Honest feedback is appreciated. My feelings won't be hurt if neither of these looks up to par. It's just clothing, after all.

P.S. I played with the contrast and brightness a bit because my apartment is really dark, so that is why some of the photos look a little odd.

Thanks for the hair comments. I got my hair cut a couple of weeks ago. I love long hair, but short hair always looks better on me.

I love the first pair. Keep those for sure.

But if you also want a pair for slightly warmer/ mid-range temps, try styling the second pair with sneakers / bare ankles or sporty sandals and summery tops. I would wear that pair in a heartbeat in early fall/ spring. They look good on you -- it's just a question of adjusting the proportions of the rest of the outfit to show them to their best advantage.

The cropped jeans could work out - I'd consider undoing the hem and wearing it unfinished with sneakers or sandals with a bit of a lift ( like Fly London ).

Suz, thanks for chiming in with your expert eye! Good idea about styling the second pair differently to make them more flattering. The weather here is already quite chilly, so there might not be many bare ankles in my near future!

Joy, both pairs feel good comfort-wise, though my initial thought on the second pair is that it is definitely shorter than I'd like. I almost ordered the regular (nonpetite) version for more length, but I have not had luck with the rise on J.Crew's regular pants in the past, so I'm hesitant to try it.

They look like they both fit well and are flattering. I agree with Suz that the second pair might be just as winning as the first with a proportion adjustment although what stood out to me as needing adjustment was the ratio of crotch to waist versus crotch to leg hem. I might try a longer top?

re the jeans, love them both...if i had to pick 1 I’d go for the full length pair in the 1st set of pictures...you can always cuff or roll them if you want to show off your footwear, but you can’t add length to the shorter pair.

Honestly, they both fit really nicely! I'd love to see the cropped ones as part of a summer outfit (bare ankles, different shoes -- as Suz suggests). I think they'd be perfect in spring/summer. For winter, the full length is probably more useful and it sounds like that's the pair that makes you happier, but if you have room in your closet and budget, I say keep both.

The first pair does amazing things for your figure! (I like the second pair but agree showing skin at your ankles would be key.) You have a high waist, but your rise is long, so you look pretty balanced to me! The high rise really lengthens your legs!

Jeans- shopping is a chore, and it can be good to keep a HEWI when you find it. But I would go with your budget( and instincts) and wear the heck out of # 1 now, and see if they also work rolled, later), and then re- group next year on where you are style-and fit- wise for a wardrobe update.

The second pair is mildly stumpifying in comparison although still good, but as a fellow short person I would prefer some that made me look like the first pair makes you look

These are both a dynamite look on you. My first choice is #2, but I also like #1 on you a lot. I agree that #1 is more versatile, being longer, and you can roll them to get a similar effect to #2.
