Which purse-like diaper bag style & color should I pick? Update--KS!

I've been wanting to treat myself to a new diaper bag for #3. I have a huge diaper bag (Ju-ju-be Be Prepared) that is great for all-day outings and airplane trips, but too huge to use every day. I wanted to get something that looks more like a purse. Ju-ju-be makes faux leather bags that are actually machine washable, which is great for the inevitable spills and stains. There are two styles, BeHave, which is more purse-like and hobo shaped, and the Be Fabulous, which is a little larger (so it holds more) and square shaped. The BeHave come in 4 colors--steel, white, black and brown, and the BeFab comes in black and brown. I am not sure which style and color to get. I do wear both black and brown outfits, but I am not sure which color would go best with everything. And which style do you like better between the two shapes?

So, pick your favorite color/lining and style combo! Thanks for your help!

I like the second bag in black the most - I think I would want to have a ton of stuff on hand and it seems like there is a lot of organization! Is it easy to access all your stuff in the first bag?

I am partial to the steel/lilac and vanilla/champagne bags for Spring! If you decide a light color would be troublesome, I'd go for the brown ones as shown in 12-14. This is entirely based on personal likes and colors that I like on you.

I can see 12-14 the best with your wardrobe. So excited that you are almost there and amazed what stamina you have. By week 38 I started to feel just terrible. I think my body totally ran out of room.

My preference is Brown BeHave with teal lining. I love that you can machine wash them. I was planning to treat myself to a new bag for number 3 but I still haven't got around to that (7 months later!). Must get onto that!

I like the be fabulous better. I'm not a fan of the shape of the be have. I would probably go black. That said, I'm not sure if the be fab is small enough, maybe it's fairly large too?

I like 1-5, both color and style. I am not sure if I like the material in the darker colors. Do they have a red or blue? That'll be cool too. I like the one you own too, but hey, I love Lesportsac inspired patterns.

I prefer the vanilla Behave if you want to use it as a purse afterwards. I like the vanilla for spring, but the gray is nice too. I think you have several black bags, so I wouldn't choose black. I think the Be Fab looks too big, it looks more like a diaper bag.

Isn't baby due today? Whenever he/she arrives, can't wait for pics!

my choice is strictly based on shape...i like the squarish befab. the u-shaped top of the other bags look dated, like a misguided hobo.

anyway, the befabs look luggagey and i love taking trips!

OMG Joy, I could kiss you! You know I LOVE Kate Spade, I didn't realize they made diaper bags. I saw this one (Deborah Dot Stevie) in black and white dots and it's love at first sight!!! I don't think I could find a bag that's any more me, don't you think? I can't wait to wear it with my polka dot skirt! And it will be the perfect diaper bag substitute for my Dotty purse.

It's pretty expensive--when I saw $398 I said no way! But then I found it on sale at eBags for $357 and I had $200 saved up in Paypal from all of my rebate cash backs (Mr. Rebates, eBates, etc). so it's about $150, plus another 12% off with eBates, so $43 off makes $107 out of pocket. Excuse the girl math, but it's worth it!

As for the JJB options, I think you gals have me nailed there too. I do like the brown with zany zinnias pattern the best of all (#12/19). I actually don't have a plain brown purse (despite my big handbag collection) so it wouldn't be duplicating any of my current purses. I think it'll be a question of how much stuff do I have to pack for 3 kids. I'm a little concerned the Behave might be too small, so I may have to go with the BeFab. I may have to order both and see which one can hold the stuff I need (I tend to overpack which is why I have that huge BePrepared). I always buy my shoes/boots in color pairs (one black, one brown), so I think with one black/white and one brown diaper bag I'll be all set!

ETA: Yes thanks Karie, my due date was yesterday! Still no sign of labor but I had a checkup and everything is fine with the baby!

So glad this worked out for you, and can't wait to see it in action! Are you sure you don't still need an unpatterned bag? The more I look the more I love the steel/lilac and champagne bags! This is something you will get A LOT of use out of, so even three diaper bags would get a decent CPW.

Who can argue with Kate Spade? Talk about chic!!! But as a second choice, I like the vanilla/champagne bag for summer. I would want that pale color in pleather (vs. leather) anyway. Sometimes, the rich colors like brown don't look all that wonderful in pleather.

Thanks everyone! Denise, you enabler you! I could be TOTALLY set for my diaper bag days with the KS black and white bag, a brown BeFab and a silver or white BeHave. But I'm going to wait and first see how the KS one works out and how much I need to pack, before considering the JJB's (also to give DH some recovery time after telling him how I bought this KS one!) He just rolled his eyes and said "Kate Spade? Sounds expensive." I had previously shown him the JJBs online and he was not a fan of the slouchy shape and wrinkly leather--he likes a lot more sleekness and structure (same thing happened when I bought slouchy ankle boots recently--he thought they looked too wrinkly).

Ornella, thanks for the link--that was an interesting read! I wonder if she'll end up liking that solution long-term of using a MK leather tote as a diaper bag. I'd be afraid to use my leather bags as diaper bags (although I do often carry some kid stuff in my purses now), just because bottles and sippy cups can leak and it's hard if it's not easily cleaned. I even ruined a diaper bag once (it was a Fleurville Lexie Tote, so sad) because the inside fabric got mold stains after a spill and it wouldn't come out even after machine washing.

And Donna, I do think you're right, the black and brown darker colors probably will show more wear than the lighter colors, although the white may be more prone to marks/stains. At least the Earth Leather is supposed to be machine washable, which is a plus!

I am very happy with this ending! I was going to vote for the brown Behave, because brown looks cool paired with black. But that KS is too great to pass up. Wonderful solution to get both!
