which pinks can I wear?

Today's ensemble made me think about pink. I have always thought that there were some pinks that are better than others for me, but I'm sure my eye is biased. So I decided to do a little experiment. I have amassed quite the collection of scarves over the years, including a blush pink, medium pink (this one actually has some purple bits in it), and saturated fuchsia. I put on an olive tee in keeping with today's ensemble.

Anyway, curious which one(s) you prefer and don't prefer on me. Please ignore the styles of the scarves in question and the weird faces! I am only interested in how the color plays with my face. These photos are taken in natural light and the colors are pretty true on my monitor. I am kind of dead-of-winter pale right now though; in summer I am probably a bit darker in general.

ETA: And is there a pink that is not here that you think I should try? Post a photo of the color if so!

All of the above. In fact, I might like the pastel best. You can wear neon pink too. And a more purple pink than #3. That bright pink is quite yellow if you know what I mean.

Like my fuchsia jacket, right, Angie? (Which is actually probably my favorite pink shade, but I'm feeling like branching out.)

I particularly love the blush one (#1) on you, but I think you could pull off any of these shades. They look very nice against the dark olive tee.

I'm quite surprised that I like the light pink the best of the three scarves. I adore that fuschia jacket on you too. It's funny because growing up, my mom always told me to stick to jewel tones (as being best on Asians in general) but I never liked them on myself. I think the deep pinks look better on my mom because she is slightly darker than me. Idk. Kind of bad when it comes to color. Personally, I like peony.

OK, trying one more thing with my face and the blush things from today's blog post. I am weirdly attracted to them but I wonder if this particular shade of blush (kind of muddy and slightly golden toned) is too close to my skin tone.

I like #1 and #3 best. #2 is fine, but is a bit too much of a grunge colour scheme for my tastes. I actually like the blush on you, but the effect isn't exactly perky... you could wear real gel blush to perk things up, but then I'm not sure I'd like that personally. I like the "serious sophistication."

Rachy, I have never worn blush (the makeup item, not the color) in my life. I can't for the life of me figure out how to make it not look clownish. The thing is that I don't blush. Ever. My face will get hot but my cheeks don't change colors when I'm embarrassed. So putting color on my cheeks seems really odd to me.

ETA: should amend that. On occasion, my entire face does get flushed if it's really hot or I've been working out or something. But there is no emphasis on the cheeks. And I feel embarrassment in my ears, not my face.

I know what you mean about it not being "perky" though. Personally I worry it looks nude. I mean, nude shoes are one thing but nude top? Not so much.

I actually think blushy nude would look marvelous against your skin tone Diana! It works for me. How about trying a non spendy piece from say h and m to at least experiment with?

I like the first pale pink scarf and he fushia jacket the best. The other scarves are good too but I don't think the blush tones of the polyvore do a lot for you. They look a little washed out.

Sona, maybe that could be my wild card purchase for the season. I think pretty much everything I've bought in the last few months has been either really practical, really within my comfort zone, or both.

Ahem. Told you, you could wear pastels and look fab in them, Diana. I'm not the only one who loves you in that pale shade of pink. Looks great with your black hair, and brings out the pink in those cute little cheeks I want to pinch.

Huh, I think I just realized something. I can wear the light pink these days because I have really bold specs that add some depth and keep my face from getting lost next to the lower contrast light pink. I am kind of thinking I need to learn to use eyebrow pencil though! (I sadly inherited my mom's patchy, sparse brows instead of my dad's thick dark ones.)

I like the fuschia jacket best then 1, 3, 2 although i think each "works" none make you look washed out or whatnot. I mock up pic is fun.... I have a hard time with the nude top look but i dont know this color would read nude IRL. Maybe next time your out shopping try some fitting room shots (not sure what to do with the artificial lighting though) of various pinks?

My first thought was: I like the pale pink best!! It surprised me, actually. But I do. And then I read the comments. It looks as if you will be adding some blush to your wardrobe.

I also love you in the fuchsia.

The other pink scarves are also good, but those two really stand out.

It's funny, but those are the kinds of pinks that tend to look best on me, too.
Totally different skin tones, obviously. But similar colours (in this case) seem to work. I have noticed the same thing with my daughter. She and I wear the same colours extremely well. There are some she looks better in than I do (like black and neons and some pastels). And some I look better in than she does (forest greens, taupe). But there is a huge overlap in what works best on us.

I like the pale pink one and the brighter one in 3 on you. I wonder what a berry shade with more red than purple would like for you, similar to the jacket. Or maybe a coral. Hmm.

Sarah, I am definitely going to go try some blush things on next time I see them in a store. I suspect it's going to be one of those things where it's just a subtle difference in shade that makes all the difference.

Columbine, thanks for the reminder. I can wear coral! However, I'm not sure it really goes with the rest of my wardrobe. But I do have this dress. It works best with a tan though.

I like the fushcia - 3rd the best. I think you would do well in this color pink as well... if you are going to do it... go big.

I like 2 and 3 on you. I think the pale one is too pale and does not do much for you, but that's just my opinion.

My instant reaction is to 2 as the best. Blush is not easy and I think you could do it but maybe not right next to your skin? I have a weird attraction to it also, the only pastel I even glance at.

My vote is #3, 2, 1 in that order. I think the blush is too close to your skin tone to be as flattering as the others, - BUT if you like it, then definitely wear it and enjoy.

interesting. Very mixed response to the three scarf colors. I wonder if it's just that some people like low contrast and others high contrast? Although everyone seems to like the fuchsia jacket, and that's definitely high contrast.

Several people mentioned they were surprised that #1 (really pale pink) worked. I have to say I was too! I'm not sure it's my favorite but I don't think it's at all bad. I can say now that the point of this exercise (for me at least) was to see if I could wear blush or really pale pink. I know more or less that the other pinks are OK on me.

Anyway, I think you have all convinced me to at least try some blush things on. Una has a good point that maybe it's not the best right next to my skin but I wonder if something as simple as a gold necklace or other jewelry would work to break it up. Of course there is always the option of blush top + olive or grey or black scarf.

I like them all, especially the blush, but that may be because I like the contrast of it against the charcoal shirt the best. Think you can wear them all!

I like #2 best on you. It doen't take the focus away from your face, but adds color. To me#1 is draining the color out of your face, and #3 steals the show a little too much. But with a different color topper you probably will get a different effect. A light tee combined with #1 shawl for example.

I'm with you on the indecisiveness, Diana! I have always steered clear of pink because I didn't think it looked good on me. But I'm seeing that there is a very broad range of pinks out there, some with warmer overtones, some with cooler. Some are a washed-out pale color (like adding water to pink paint) while others are a muted pink color (adding the complement to the pink paint). So it's definitely worth a try next time you go shopping. Just grab a bunch of pink-colored stuff and see what looks good. You might be surprised and find a new favorite color!
