Which pair of ballet flats? - YouLookFab Forum

Buffalo has finally got new ballet flats in their collection. I still have some store credit I wanted to use for ages, but their shoes (other than the ballet flats) are too expensive for my taste (and have often too much heel).

Now I need your help to decide which pair to get, because I'm not really sure what color is best for my wardrobe and for spring. I unfortunately cannot link directly to it, but when you go to http://www.buffaloshop.de/index_de.html, then to "Damen" and then to "Ballerinas" you should see an overview of their ballet flats.

I already have two pairs (black and purple), similar to these:

Although the black ones are battered. Should I get the black ones to replace my old pair? Or wear the old pair a bit longer and maybe get another color to wear with my non-black clothing?

I like the cognac and brown ones, but I don't know if they would fit in with the colors I normally wear:

I know that animal print is really in at the moment, but I'm not sure I could pair them with all my patterned things:

What do you think? Any ideas? Oh, and please vote only on pairs for 50€, because I don't want to pay too much additionally. I'm curious about your suggestions!

I like all the ones with a scrunchy ruffle across the toe, and I don't like any of the ones that curl up like slippers -- does that help?

If you wear black ballet flats a lot, I would replace the battered pair. Worn out shoes always drag down an outfit (channeling Clinton Kelly here, but he's right).

I like the ruffled ones, too, but they are too expensive. I agree about the ones that curl up, I don't like them either.

I wore the black ballet flats a lot because black was a basic color for me. But I find that I'm not so much into it now as I once was. I wore my black boots all through winter and I feel like I don't want such a "heavy" color with the brighter and lighter spring colors. But I also own three black dresses and three black skirts and black ballet flats would be better with them.

How about red? Is that an option? I have red flats that I wear with everything during the spring and summer. They replace black flats 85% of the time and add a nice pop of color.

Anne, red is a good idea - if they had a red pair in their range. I think I would like some red shoes in principle, but I want to buy a pair there because of my store credit.

Can you wear the purple ones with your non-black clothing or do you feel that another color would be a better choice?
From colors, I like cognac (but not brown), it would nicely bookend your hair and definitely be spring-appropriate, light and totally cute.

I think my favorites are reptil-optik and cognac. Cognac will work with your black outfits, as long as you're not wearing black tights

lynn, what color would you choose? I don't know if I want to invest so much money. I still want some sandals for summer and I won't be able to compromise much with them, because I will lucky to find ones that fit, anyway.

Evie, I like the ones with the reptilian optic, too. Not so enthusiastic about the ones with the white stripe. The purple ones are an option, although I don't think of it as a basic color. And I don't like to pair purple and red.
You got why I thought about the cognac, I think it would work really well with spring colors and more colorful outfits. I thought I couldn't wear them with black, but I'm always a little hesitant when it comes to pair black and brown. But I would definitely wear the ballet flats with bare legs most of the time. I don't like the look of ballet flats with tights all that much.

I think cognac works with all colors because I don't consider it a color, like brown. Cognac is more like a "skin-tone", a neutral that pairs with anything. Whereas brown is a real color. I'm not sure if that makes sense? So it goes with black, brown, white, red,...Can't think of anything that it wouldn't go well with. Okay, maybe bad weather...

If you decide not to get a neutral pair (black or cognac imo), think about "your" colors. Which ones do you find yourself looking good in? I think the only color-color shoes I could wear for 50% of the time is blue, because I consider it my color. I want more colors, of course, but not for everyday wearing. What are your colors?

If I had to choose a color-color based on what you said, it would probably be some purple/violet (I already have a pair of these) or some blue/sea green/turquoise colored ones. Something like these:

I am all for the cool colors. But I think I tend more toward the cognac colored ones at the moment.
