Which Metalicus Skirt?

Hi Ladies,

Can you help decide which skirt I should order? Both are from my new favourite store (Metalicus). I went to get the blue dress and they have now sold out:(. But I have had my eye on these and would like to take the opportunity to farewell 3 "cheap" black skirts and replace them with one better quality garment.

#1 is the Plaza Drape Twist skirt, a little reminiscent of the design of the plaza dress I have, and

#2 is the Plaza Gathered Skirt, which has a lot more "ruching" on both the back and front.

May I ask which you think is more me? I do like them both but am leaning toward one more so than the other.

The cool thing about the Plaza range, is that the fabric really is quite transeasonal. The skirt can be worn with hose or leggings in the cooler months but will also be fine with bare legs for the warmer months.

I think the second one would be quite va va voom... I like it if you're alright with that. I personally see you more in the first one, but is it too similar to the dress you have?

Really hard to say Deborah. I'm drawn to the second one but only if it's Rick Owens-esque rather than I'm off to the club, if you know what I mean. I think you need to try them both - is there free shipping/return?

Interesting! I felt that #2 could read as potentially "tacky" if not worn the right way:) and trust me, my clubbing days are well over;)

I agree the skirt could give off that vibe but it would be the clothes NOT you for sure I don't think you could ever look tacky

From what I have seen of your style I would dress you in #1. It has a little bit of interest at the hem without being to much. You could pair it with tops that have drape without looking 'wrinkled ' all over.
I like #2 a LOT, though- it would be great for emphasising curves at the hip.

I like them both, but I prefer the ruching and the blue of the 2nd one slightly more. I don't think you can go wrong, they sound perfect for your style.

Deborah - I like them both. Number 2 is all about how high that slit comes up and does it ride up. Very alexander wang, HL, rick owens but it could be problematic depending on construction. Number one is fun but a safer choice. So, depends on fit and mood. If you need date night stuff, number two, for daily wear I'd usually pick one because I would not want to have to worry about modesty. I hope Greyscale chimes in, I'm pretty sure she has a skirt just like 2 and could give you some feedback on comfort.

Gryffin those are my concerns. I cannot handle anything that I have to fuss with or is 'revealing'. I want this skirt to go 'everywhere' from office to casual.

Here is a pic of #2 on a model. I have checked the measurements and the skirt will come down past my knee by about 2 to 3 cm's. Given the fabric (it's the same as my dress) I think it will end up sitting just below the centre of my knee.

I would be wearing the skirt with drapey toppers and when necessary structured jackets.

Part of my feels that #2 might work better of willowy models than short, apple-y me:)

My dress which is cut like #1 creates a more pronounced drape on me than in the pics so I am wondering if the drape of the skirt would be more pronounced to (I would like that).

Deborah - if two comes below the knee it might be fine but I do think this is one of those items you'll have to try on, move sit etc in it. It's weird I can't wear that type of ruching. I'm a rectangle with no chest and it's just too much fabric in the wrong place but so many look divine in this style. I really llike both skirts. I'll be interested to hear what you think if you try them on. I tried a HL just like 2 and could not take if off fast enough but I still just love it on the model and wish it would work for me. That kind of fabric is comfortable and versatile - I think it would be an awesome addition if it looks flattering on!! Good luck can't wait to hear how it goes!!

Style-wise I vote for #2 because I like the flow and shape of the ruching better and and the angled hemline. I do agree, though, that depending on height and where the skirt will hit on you, that #1 may be more universally flattering to the not-tall crowd.

Both look like they could easily be your style depending on what you wore them with. Is there any opportunity to get photos of you wearing each of them so we'd get a better sense of how each would look on you IRL?

The one I am actually more keen on is in fact #1. I love the way the skirt part of my dress works and would be very happy to have a skirt that falls in a similar fashion.

It would be the safer choice absolutely but I think it will be more wearable for me. I am concerned that the ruching on the second would be just too much fuss for me, and it would add too much to my already curvaceous bottom and hips:) I do have a lovely jersey black midi that has a nice Owens-esque drape. I also suspect #1 will work better with leggings too.

I love them both difficult decision.....
I do have a Metalicus skirt, quite a fitted tube style and it doesn't ride up at all. I think because the fabric is so stretchy, lots of movement.
#1 is probably more versatile, but I do love all of the drape on #2.

Nr 1. for your artsy edgy style and I cannot explain it more ot better. I know nr 2 can be very flattering with that split on front side, but has a bit more of a vavavoom vibe than the simple sophistication of the nr.1. This are my 2 cents only, but I trust your guts and style, so can't wait which will land in your closet eventually!

I love the second one! I bought a straight knit skirt from Target and it came out of the wash looking like the first one (which I didn't mind!)...

I have a copy of #1 on order from F21 at this very moment, to replace a Leifsdottir one I had that came up in the front like #2, heh. So you know where my vote is!

I like #1 for you since you wear asymmetrical tops often. It seems to me that the diagonal lines on skirt #2 could fight with lines of an asymmetrical top.

I too am obsessed with this brand ATM!
I am actually going to a store today to redeem my first credit through the loyalty system
(I always thought this brand was a little pricey, but see now that if you join the prices are reasonable.)

I have just spot-read the other comments, and here is my two cents.

My original thought was that I like #2 more for you, because the ruching provides texture and movement. Since you wear a lot of black, you need some way to keep things interesting and dynamic, and the ruching will do that.

But then I read that you wanted the skirt to be very versatile, from office to casual. For that I would have to go with #1.

I also saw how you talked about the length of skirt 2 coming just below your knee, or just below the center of the knee. I have found that on me (5'2"), skirts that hit at that point are not very flattering. I need them to be either at the top of the knee or else a decent midi length (=midcalf). But a length between these two is not very flattering at all.

It meant to have it. I could possibly get it from the boutique in Sydney where I ordered this black one but she still has them at full price. So I will let it go for now:). Let me know if you buy anything and can you fill me in on how the loyalty program works. I have an account and ordered the skirt #1 last night but not clear on the benefits xx

Deborah, I knew I wanted the scarf to complete the outfit with the drape top, so I ordered on-line 3 days ago. This purchase generated a credit of $20 that can be used for this month only. I will now get the top at a discounted price.
By ordering at the end of the month I have gained the benefit quickly!
Although I made my first purchase on-line, the loyalty credit must be redeemed at a B&M store, which could be trickier for you. This includes Myer though.

Deborah, I love #1. I like #2 a lot, too (though like gryffin, I cannot wear that style myself -- making me like it all the more, perhaps!!) -- but #1 looks the safer bet in a positive sense -- less likely to ride up, less likely to read the wrong way, more versatile.

Ly that will be tricky for me! I have ordered on 30/4 so I assume I have a month from that date? We don't have Metalicus in our Myer so I will have to find out what I do. I am keen on the double layer beanie that they have on line at the moment.

The dress is called the Short Sleeve Plaze Drape Dress and the colour is cobblestone

I had a thought whilst walking just now- if you decide on the Beanie you could ring your closest store, pay on the phone and have them send it to you? (So you get your loyalty credit.)
If they don't post, Doncaster is my closest- I can always collect for you.
I would say if you ordered and payed yesterday, your credit will be available now and for the rest of May.
If I see your dress today I will ring you straight away
