which hat for me?

Hi Mo! I like the green w/purple trim because the more neutral green would probably be more versatile, & it would coordinate with your purple bag without being matchy-matchy. BTW I have always loved fedoras! (I got my black Stetson fedora many years ago from a men's hat shop called Byrnie Utz, on 3rd & Union. I didn't know if they were still there, but I just checked online & they are!) It has proved an excellent investment that has stood the test of time. And I have a casual straw fedora for summer. I like the fedoras you're looking at because they're more tailored & a bit dressier than my summer one, so I'm going to look for a similar hat too!

I prefer not only the colour, but also the shape of the first hat. Being slightly more neutral, you will be able to wear it with far more, and with a hat and a bag you really risk looking silly if you go all matchy-matchy.

Is this your first hat? If it is, then I would test the waters with the more subtle green hat. The purple band still gives it a pop of color. I'm also thinking that the green would go great with your elbow patch blazer.

Hey, in case anybody in the Seattle area is looking for hats, check out Byrnie Utz at 3rd & Union. (I'd forgotten the name of the shop when I posted earlier, but then I remembered it & checked & yes they are still there! They are a men's hat shop, but don't let that deter you, as they have hats in all different sizes, so women can wear them too. Maybe not for those who are just testing the waters when it comes to hats, but I encourage anybody who's a serious hat fan to check them out if you haven't already; they have classic, investment-dressing high-quality hats.)

Mo, my impression is that you have a lot of green/olive bottoms, right? If you go with the green hat, will it end up being too matchy-matchy with green top to bottom? So I voted for purple.

My first reaction is green because it's more neutral to me. But it would also influence my choice to know what kind of material the green one is. The purple looks like a type of basket weave so would be light and cool. Is the green one that same type of material, or some kind of wool or felt?

We stopped in that shop for the BF when we went to Seattle for my 40th! He spied a beauty, but all we took home with us was this pic lol.
I decided on the green hat. It has free shipping and returns. Main reason was I didn't want to look like a crazy purple people eater with my purse matching. AJ's point about a first hat being more neutral is a good one, too. (I have some bucket sun hats but for all intensive purposes this is a first hat)
