Which denim dress to order?

I'm taking it as my summer challenge...as challenged by Angie...to try wearing a dress with my gym shoes that I am stuck wearing (long boring story). I decided "denim" would be an easier option because I've seen some pics with denim dresses and sneakers. I'm looking for a sporty-casual vibe.

These are sitting in my basket. I'm leaning towards the last two because I have major concerns about long sleeves not working with my summer weather, no matter how light the material. Linen might be a pain, so really I'm leaning towards the last one. Is the "hem" too silly?

I like all but #1. I was looking at 2 or 4 myself, but then decided to hold off on a shirt dress like the denim for now. the hem on 4 is very current so I vote for it.

I like the frayed hem, Peri! I think an interesting hem adds an intentional, finished look to a shirt dress. I also like the look of the second (Kut) dress.

I love the third one -- in navy. That's the linen, yes? In my experience, linen is less obviously wrinkly in dark colors, and is amazingly cool.

I love the idea of a denim dress for you, Peri! I hope you will order a couple and compare. I understand what you are saying about sleeves. My climate is nowhere near as hot as yours but I don't wear my chambray sleeved shirtdress on our hottest days. (Below in Finds) I save it for mid-range summer temps (mid range for us), days when the humidity is low, or times when I'll be in an AC environment.

How about trying the linen one just to see?

And here's another option...a linen blend from Aritzia. Linen blends tend to wrinkle less. I have ordered it for myself but it is not here yet. Comes in two shades of denim blue.

So, I've been thinking some more...here are a few more options. I know you can't get from The Bay but I think the brands are available elsewhere for you.

And I was thinking, what about the (non denim) dress that Elizabeth P is considering from Eileen Fisher? It would also look great with sneakers and you have done well with Eileen Fisher in the past.

#4 gets my vote. I like the hem and think it works well at any age - it gives the dress some texture and interest and keeps it casual enough to work with any casual shoe or sandal in the warm weather.

Hi Peri,

I have tried on the Madewell dress and loved everything about it - except the way it fit me. The dress fabric was very nice quality. Lighter weight denim yet enough heft so it had a drape. It would be perfect for 75-80 degree day with low humidity. The hem does add interest to what is a basic shirt dress. The collar can be popped up if you like that look. I so wanted this one to come home with me but the fit was too big. I have narrow shoulders and rib cage and commonly look like I'm wearing a big sack if there is not enough structure and that is how I felt in this dress even in the smallest size. The length ended about 2" above my knee. This felt a little short for me (I need to make peace with my knees) but I could have lived with it if the fit was better elsewhere. For reference, I'm 5'4".

I think #4 is fabulous and I very much like the frayed hem, especially for a casual summer look. I also like the idea of a linen or linen-blend dress (like #3) for the real heat of summer when denim could be too heavy. Even something in a rayon or a tencel/lyocell fabrication could work well in summer heat.

Thanks everyone! I guess the thing will be to get several and try. I like the look of all of them, so it will come down to which one likes me. More than that, it will come down to fabric. Cause Greycat6...yikes, buzzkill! 75-80 with no humidity....like March and April? Haha, those days are already gone.

Suz I like the DEX one you found. That is really what I had in my mental image. Now to find it in the US!

I love the idea of sleeveless for summer. It gets hot and humid here and long sleeves definitely would not work. I think the frayed hem is cute, I've always liked it and am excited to see more this year.
