Which color for rain jacket? - YouLookFab Forum

I'm really fed up with rain jackets, I can tell you. I feel like they just don't make ones that fit me. Biggest issues are that they're too tight in the hips and that the sleeves are way too long. I was in a big outdoor department store today and tried on every rain jacket that was in the budget. Nothing worked - I can tell you the SA despaired.

I'm giving online shopping another try and will order the women's version of the rain jacket my brother has. In another color though, he has it in red. I'm wondering whether I should go with the more 'dressy' black or with the blue. I normally like blue better than black, but this looks very bright. The first two are the stock pics, the last three are pics I found at other sites.

What do you think? Any other recommendations what I could try?

I'd go with black as more versatile unless you want something sporty. The blue looks more sporty and gear like to me. Great looking jacket. I hope it works for you.

Thanks Joy! I could always add a scarf to soften the black near my face. I really hope this works out, I want to have it over with. At least I know that it's a good jacket, my brother has stayed dry so far in his.

I agree that shopping for jackets is quite challenging, which is why I don't own enough of them!

Ugh, commiserations! With those two options, I'd (grudgingly) go with black, because bright colours like that blue don't flatter me at all and look more gear-ish. But I'd secretly be hoping a navy blue or charcoal grey option would show up. Don't know if that's any help to you, and sadly I don't have any other recs (I inherited my mom's old raincoat, 20 years old and still working beautifully: I love it because the hood rolls up/snaps away and there's an inner drawstring at the waist so I feel less swallowed alive. Maybe features to keep an eye out for? Though it sounds like you have a severe lack of options.).

Thanks Eva. You know, I feel just like you about the black. I don't really want black, but I had so many fit issues that I tried on everything in the store regarless of color (and still found nothing). Of course a navy or a grey would be awesome, but that might be asking for too much. I'm going to browse the store before I order this one, maybe there's one in a nicer color I could try additionally.

Thanks Alasse! I think you're right, the blue is too bright. I think I'm going to try the black one. I found another jacket I'm going to order too, the one below. Less technical but it might be enough to keep dry. Also quite a bit more expensive, but if it works out I'd have a jacket in a nice color that doesn't look so much like gear.

I like the grey one. Black is probably more practical than blue, but I was hoping for a really bright color. When it's rainy is when drivers have a hard time seeing pedestrians.

I really like this one. http://www.patagonia.com/us/pr.....?p=83806-0 But my neighbor has it and we already have matching Patagonia winter jackets so I can't get it. She looks glamor fit in it (she is 74) when she comes to pilates class.

Thanks Jaileen! That's a good point of course and probably the reason why there are so many bright colors available when it comes to gear. I just have to take care to always keep close to one of my siblings who all have brighter jackets.

Thanks Ummlila! I actually tried that one a while ago when it was on mark down in early spring, but the cut didn't work for me. It would have been too thin besides.

Astrid did you buy your Puffer from LLBean or from Lands End? I can't remember. You had such excellent results I am wondering if it is worth trying them again. LLBean has wonderful rain jackets in many colours that look like they could be just right and at reasonable price points.

Glory, it was Lands End - we don't have LLBean here.I did look at Lands End but to be honest I'm not sure I'm trusting their jackets enough to really keep me dry in a downpour or all day drizzle out in nature.

I totally hear you Astrid! Fit issues in outerwear are tough for me too. You gotta kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince!
