Where You Shop = Your Style?

A friend of mine asked me yesterday where I shop and if I would describe that store as my "style." I laughed because I have been in a style rut and am trying to figure out if a new style is on the horizon for me.

I thought I would toss this out to the forum. Do you feel that you have a few "go-to" stores or lines that define your personal style? Or do you shop a variety of places and build your style with a lot of different influences?

I do have my favorites where I always go to. I know I can always find something I like at Singapore label Alldressedup. It has everything I like in a garment: quality, playfulness, fun, asymmetry. Another go to place is Zara. They always have something from the latest trends, done with style in a minimalist way. Those 2 stores definitely 'get' my style. I also shop in other stores, but can only find occasional pieces I like there....

I wish. I think it would be so much easier if there was a store that represented my style. I do wear the most, apologetically, of H&M because they at least dare to do things a bit out there and in sizes I can use.

But if I could afford it, I think there are a couple designers I would buy that I feel are my style. Problem is that designer is copied by some stores like Zara and Mango in sizes I cannot use. So style versus real availability is always a problem.

I would probably have it easier if I lived another place. Norway is not really the best for selection.

This is definitely true for me - Gap, Jcrew, Lands End, BR, are my classic, outdoorsy mainstays and have been for most of my life now.

Not really. I shop everywhere from J Crew to JC Penney! And many of my best finds are from the consignment store or even Goodwill!

I really believe in Angie's adage, "Leave no retail stone unturned!"

I don't think so, either. I often wear a piece from one of my favorite stores (Old Navy, Target, etc), and people are surprised to hear where it came from. I think the key is figuring out which stores fit your body best, then styling the pieces from them with your own twist- as well as not leaving any retail stone unturned.

I have a classic/preppy style and I shop at lots of different stores, but I always check out J. Crew and end up buying things from there almost every season. So, I guess the answer is yes, but it's not the only place I buy my clothes.

Because of my size, I tend to be somewhat limited in terms of where I am actually able to shop. But I do have the advantage of being able to shop two continents, and I don't exclude any possible options.

I think for me the reverse it true. My style dictates where I shop. I don't have one store where they totally "get" me - wish I did! But there are some designers I depend on, for sure.

I hope not, or my style would be "Goodwill", lol! But seriously, even if I had all the money in the world to spend, and I really liked a certain store (let's say Ann Taylor), I wouldn't want to by to readily identifiable as an Ann Taylor dresser. Not head-to-toe and everyday, anyway. I want to create a little mystery.....in my dreams anyway!

I'm trying to break out of style schizophrenia at this point, so I'm still figuring out where to shop. I shop online, mainly - in Hautelook.com. They usually have some fairly good brands that are discounted.

I really do not have a designated store either - just a mishmash of different brands. Somehow, I'm able to compose something that's feminine-edgy regardless where I shop.

Like ClearlyClaire, my look would be "Goodwill"! LOL! But I'd say a slight majority of the items I thrift are Ann Taylor/LOFT and Banana Republic. The best jeans for me are Gap, and I have a few great thrifted pairs.

I have a very large wardrobe and about 90% of it is Ann Taylor. I worked there part time for 5 yrs. and aquired my style from about 3 yrs. prior to that...I mix it up with trendy pieces and dress down the more buisiness looks with denim.
I love to mix it with Jcrew too:)

Pre-YLF my favorite stores were Ann Taylor and Banana Republic and Macy's. Now I mostly shop at Nordstrom, Anthropologie, White House Black Market, Gap and H&M. I have worn complete outfits from WHBM, but otherwise I try to mix things up. I wouldn't mind Ann Taylor and BR now, but I was just having fun exploring new places and never got around to revisiting those stores. I would say Anthro is "my style", although there's a lot of stuff there that is totally not my style!

If JCrew and Anthro had a baby, it would be exactly my style.

Come to think of it, their baby might be Kate Spade. She's my style, but NOT my price range!

I know i can usually pop into the H&M divided section and find a lot of "my style" at my price point. Urban Outfitters has a lot of things i like as well but i often feel the price is too high for the quality there.
