Where to wear this dress?

Hi all,
I bought this dress sometime ago and I do not wear it because I have not figured out an appropriate occasion. I was imagining a sunny party at someone's house but I do not go to such parties. I live in New York and I cannot figure out where it will be a good place to wear it. Suggestions?

Also what color bag and shoes would you recommend?

It's a casual dress, you don't need to wait for the occasion! Wear with summer sandals to have tea with friends, to go shopping

Thanks, Rute. Do you think a brown bag and brown sandals will go well with it? I am thinking grey but I do not have grey sandals although I have a cheap grey bag.

White or silver would look cute. I also think brown would be fine - tan or a mid brown would be my pick, nothing too dark, just to keep it looking summery.

Cute dress! I agree with Rute that this dress looks to be casual, so you can wear it anywhere—out to get groceries, to get the oil changed on the car, you name it!

I think nude shoes would look great, and maybe a white bag.

What do you think of wearing this dress for an early afternoon non-date for a walk in the park, for instance?

I'd definitely wear it for a walk in the park if it is comfortable! I'd wear it all over the place, actually.

That sounds perfect! It looks like it could easily be dressed down. You could carry along a denim jacket if you might be in the A/C.

I agree with everyone here; it's a casual dress and you can wear it for a casual outing not just a party. I would pair it with white, silver or a very light beige-brown type of shoe. The colours of the dress are very soft so I think the shoe colour should be soft too. Perhaps a nude shoe would work for you. You don't have to match your bag to your shoes and you could have a little fun with it by using a grey/silver, pink or green bag, picking up one of the colours in the dress and even going a little brighter than the dress colours. You could also dress it down by trying out the casual sneaker trend. A pair of white canvas Keds perhaps and a casual cross body bag would make it very appropriate for a day about town where you are doing lots of walking.

Wear it out for a casual meal, shopping, running errands on a hot day, to a movie or theatre in the park. If it is washable,wear it around the house instead of shorts. You need to be enjoying that dress

Joy, it's funny you are saying to wear it around the house. I bought it for that purpose, but it is a bit too nice to do so. Plus it is not cotton. If the weather is humid hot, the inside fabric sticks to the body a bit.

I would definitely be wearing that dress as it is super cute...All of the above suggestions would go great with it...I especially like the denim jacket or a denim shirt...Enjoy..

It would be a great dress to try the sneaker with skirt look. With a cardigan and heels, good for an office...

rachylou, do you think it's for the office too? The pattern is cocktail glasses, cocktail umbrellas and slices of lime. I teach, so I do not think any references to alcohol on the job are useful.

If the pattern was some sort of flowers, I would have been more comfortable wearing the dress anywhere, but for some reason I am not that confident wearing it in Manhattan. Please correct me if I am wrong. I think that the posts so far suggests that I am wrong.

I would put a denim jacket over the top and wear it with metallic sandals.
