Where to shop in Barcelona & Paris?

I'm spending some time in Europe and would love to shop while in Barcelona and Paris, but I'm not familiar with the stores and chains here. I'm currently in Mallorca and there seem to be a lot of shops with high prices, but not high quality. I don't have a lot of time to browse through store after store.

I am looking for good quality, comfortable and chic clothing - both casual and a little dressier for work - I'm thinking unique dresses, linen, comfortable and well-cut pants.

I'm also looking for good quality sandals.

I'd love advice on stores to check out and also brands to look at. I saw Hispanita show up in one of Angie's posts when I did a search.

Ask Susan on her blog where to shop in Paris. She was there last month and knows the city very well. It's been 19 years since we lived in France so her info is a lot more up to date:

How fun!

It's been years since I was last in Barcelona (love the city!), so have no up-to-date info on store locations etc. but European brands like Massimo Dutti, &Other Stories, Camper (footwear) all have their own stores there.

And then there's El Corte Inglés, the Spanish equivalent of Nordstrom, where you'll find even more Euro brands (like Esprit) that don't have their own stores in Spain - there you'll also find plenty of interesting smaller and larger Spanish brands too (last time I was there, they had lots of fun handbags for example).

I think I visited six Desigual stores when in Barcelona three years ago. That was definitely my happy place. And there were dozens of little boutiques with beautiful things too.

In Paris, I like starting at Galeries Lafayette to see a bunch of brands in one place, and then finding a larger store dedicated to those that look promising. I found a couple of new to me brands and kitted out my husband when his bag was lost.

Hi from Barcelona! Not a resident, just a regular visitor. Street style here is casually chic, making it a great place to shop quality tees and beach wear. I am endlessly impressed by Spanish museum shop merchandise.

I concur with Angie about looking for shoes here. Also good for leather wear. A favorite local brand: if you want a lovely premium handbag by an independent designer, be sure to check out iriarte iriarte. See find, below.

For small independent boutiques, the Gracia neighborhood is excellent hunting ground.

My favourite shopping area when we lived in France was Le Marais. Sooooo, take a stroll there too

In Paris, second the Marais recommendation. Lots of small, interesting shops, with more stores open on Sunday than in other Parisian neighborhoods, in case that helps with your schedule. Great gift items and small purveyors of reasonably priced jewelry, often in silver. Also suggest the streets around rue Cherche-Midi on the Left Bank for small boutiques and interesting French handbags and shoes.

In Barcelona, lots of shoes throughout the city; you should have good luck with sandals. Like shopping in the Bari Gothic pedestrian zone. Enjoyed shopping for bags at Beatriz Furest, a Spanish designer. She also does shoes and sandals. She had a couple of shops in Barcelona, with the larger one on a main shopping blvd in the central part of the city; found items fairly priced, well made and interesting.
