Where to go shopping in Johannesburg?

Hi All!
I'm in Joburg for my dissertation research and I'm curious if anybody has suggestions for where to go shopping in South Africa, especially for basic but high-quality long sleeved shirts. Unfortunately one of my four long sleeved shirts met its demise to a bleach splatter while unattended at the hostel I was staying in Cape Town and another one of the long sleeved shirts is slowly developing a hole on the belly
Let me know if you have any suggestions for where to go, or where NOT to go. I've got another 2 months here with a very small wardrobe, so I don't want to buy anything that's going to fall apart on me within the next 15-20 wears.

We lived in Johannesburg for years, and know the shopping scene quite well. Head over to Sandton City and the Rosebank Mall. Those were my favourites.

I hope that you're staying in a hotel in Sandton because that's probably the safest option.

PM a forum member called Hill. She lives in Sandton right now - I think - or very close to Sandton. Hopefully you can meet up with her, and show you the ropes.

While you are in SA, YOU MUST VISIT CAPE TOWN. That's the prettiest city on the planet. Nothing in the world comes close to that level of natural beauty. We lived there for many years too - Greg is Capetonian.

Thanks for the suggestions Angie! I'm staying in Melville, but with the Gautrain getting to Sandton is a snap - I was there on Thursday.

I completely agree about Cape Town. I was just there for 3 weeks, plus I was there (and Jozi, Durban, and rural areas) in 2007. Cape Town is hands down the most beautiful city ever!
