Where to buy mid-range stud earrings ?

I feel I have reached a point where my jewelry preferences have stabilized. All I wear are a pair of studs with a fake paste diamond. I usually get them from Target, so they are very low end. I want to invest in a pair that I don't have to replace every few months. I don't want to make this a research project (too much other stuff going on right now), so I come to you. Where can I purchase a simple pair of studs - cubic zirconia/diamond look-alike/ethical diamond in a sterling silver setting that won't lose its shine in ages months and costs in the low hundreds?

Gosh. What a thought. I was thinking to go to a local jeweler, but as I sit here, I realise there are no more such stores in my town. It's just Tiffany and Shreve - a trip either into the 'burbs or the city. Now I wonder - does anyone buy from mall stores like Kay?

Ross-Simons is new to me. I didn't know BlueNile sold earrings - I thought they did only custom rings. Lots of options there.

Rachy, that reminds me that I hear radio ads for some small jewelers around Mother's Day. I bought our wedding rings online. Come to think of it, I have never set foot in an actual store but I am sure there a few stores in our area.

Elpgal, I reached that point about 3 years ago - I didn't want to be switching out earings all the time, and I wanted a pair that I wouldn't loose during sporting and fitness activities. Just about any PHARMACY carries 'sleepers' - studs with slightly thicker posts that LOCK into the back clasp.

They are meant primarily for folks who have just had a piercing and are going through the healing process. They are usually surgical stainless steel with silver or gold plate. I wore a small gold hoop for 1 year, but 2 years ago switched to gold plate with studs with small (fake) diamonds. They cost about $35 CA.

Note the locking clasp in the pics below.

Carla, I am confused..don't all stud earrings look like this? I do have some with an extra silicone thingamabob that you add behind the back clasp so it does'nt slip away. Do these have posts with threads on them? A lot of Indian earrings are made that way. But you are right, I want something that I can wear and forget about. I don't want to have to remove them each night, before baths, or risk losing them in dressing rooms.

Elpgal, the thicker posts have a notch at the end and the clasp snaps over it. Most studs have looser clasps that slide back and forth along a thinner post and don't lock down. I guess the picture doesn't really show the difference. That is probably a good thing, because the sleepers look like regular earings. The posts are a little thicker, so if your holes are small, they can be a little sore at first. They won't give you big holes though.

I wear mine 24/7 and essentially forget about them.

Off the diamond stud topic, but Carla's point is exactly why I like the "huggie" style of little hoop earrings -- you don't have to worry about losing them.

UmmLila - I feel I have weird earlobes that don't look good with hoops. I used to like dangly earrings but they clash with eyeglasses.

You can get them from many different stores, so you have a lot of options! You can look at different brands here.

Rachy, I'm sorry that you don't have any small jewelers anymore. I live in a major metropolitan area, but there are lots of independent jewelers around. Elpgal, I would suggest doing an online search for local jewelers and then going into a store and checking things out. Since you're looking for something that is quite simple, odds are the place will have it.

Check out Swarovski crystal earrings. They look like the real thing and won't break the bank.

My Mom is the queen of jewelry and has gifted everyone in our family simulated diamond stud earrings from QVC.com. They come in all sizes and metal choices and the prices are really good. Their simulated diamond brand name is diamonique. I have a pair I wore for years that look like new. I would still be wearing them but my SO gifted me a pair of natural diamond studs.
