Where to buy a flat iron?

My flat iron doesn't work this morning!!! I am going to use my friends today, but I have to run out and buy one ASAP. I have straight hair so I don't think I need top of the line. Does anybody know of a good quality one for $50 or less? I can't live without my flat iron!!!!

I have straight hair too and use one for the same reason you do - I got mine at Sally Beauty Supply. I can't remember how much it cost, though, but not expensive.

I have a Solia flat iron that was somewhat expensive, but I really don't think it works any better than my Revlon ceramic iron I bought years ago at Target.

I think as long as you get one with ceramic plates you'll be fine:)

I bought my CHI at Costco.com a few years back and noticed they're even less expensive in the store now.

I used to think you had to have an expensive brand but I think they've all gotten better in quality over the years (wow, that's a first!). I walked by a bunch at Target yesterday that looked pretty nice.

amazon.com carries loads of flatirons and most of them will be shipped for free to your door in a matter of days if you live in the US.

I am still mourning my expensive one that I fried by using a sub-par converter while traveling. I bought a cheap replacement for around $50 with ceramic plates but I don't even use it because it just doesn't work on my hair. My hair requires some serious heat to be tamed, but maybe you can get by with less fire-power.

I went to Marshalls yesterday and saw 100% ceramic plated flatirons starting at 19.99 and ending at 39.99. From experience, ceramic-plated (plated as in that the plates are plated.. haha) flatirons don't work, but I don't know exactly why. Mine makes my hair brittle, stringy, and tangled, not to mention catching my hair on each run-through. I used my best friend's 100% ceramic plated flatiron and it made my hair soft, shiny, straight and beautiful just as a flatiron should. Her's was a Conair. What I noticed is that the surface of 100% ceramic plates are that they are very shiny-- almost like a mirror, and you are able to leave a fingerprint on them or fog them up with your breath.
Hope this helps, and don't worry about looking strange testing each flatiron in the store breathing on them to see if it fogs up or seeing if a fingerprint shows -- I did it!

p.s. the one at Marshalls for 19.99 I'm thinking about getting comes with a mini travel flatiron too. Don't know about anyone else.. but I'm the find of person who would keep that in my purse. I think TJ Maxx also carries almost the same ones.

Well, I was convinced that I needed a better quality iron than what I had after using my friends InfraShine. I could not believe how much better my hair curled with hers! I can get mine straight(er) with my cheapie, but curling didn't work as well. I thought it was just me and my hair, but what a difference!

I went to Sally's and found a FHI Technique G2 reduced to $60. That was only $10 more than I wanted to spend so I bought it. Makes great curls! I know nothing about this brand and I'm usually one to do a lot of research before buying. Hope I made the right decision.

Really??? Shiny plates? I almost bought one with shiny plates. Titanium I think? Mine are not shiny plates. Oh why am I so indecisive????

I think making curls depends mainly on whether the edges are curved or not?

Maybe you can find some reviews online of the iron that you bought?

I can curl w/ mine which doesn't have curved plates.. just twist and pull...
@Shannon... how is it working? When I can't decide between two things I buy them both to try out and return the one I don't like... I would definitely try shiny plates out for a spin just because they are amazing
