Hi and welcome!
It seems like you would enjoy a low-maintenance transition to your wardrobe, maybe gradually upgrading your standards and finding some ideas of how to combine your pieces in your wardrobe so that they become deliberate outfits and not just clothes.
This forum is great. "WIW" posts include photos of members in what they as real people are wearing. You soon will find people whose style you identify with, and you can keep an eye on them. (For me the photos load poorly on my phone, and easily on the computer).
As Aida mentioned, Angie's blog is a source of inspiration and new ideas of how to wear combinations, that you might not have thought of. There are many wardrobe planning posts that might recommend selecting a few colors and planning around them, many ways to grow a wardrobe without breaking the bank. Angie is very strategic. Search on the term "capsule" for inspiration. In these posts, Angie has collected a handful of tops and bottoms and accessories that go nicely together, and they can provide inspiration!
Third, if you can find brands or stores with websites that you identify with, you can "shop" their sites to get ideas. Angie recommends shop a lot, buy less frequently Ideas and combinations start building themselves together when you simply keep your eye out, even when you aren't buying. Like maybe adding a scarf or jacket to a look takes it to an entire new level. Maybe wearing a slouchy cashmere pullover instead of sweatshirt. Maybe instead of wearing your athletic all-weather top layer everywhere, your new signature piece is a simple leather moto-jacket. (an investment piece, no question, but could be very versatile if it suits you)
Have fun with the transition. Being deliberate and strategic works for any budget level. Don't stress about it; take your time, and it will be a lot more fun!
