Where should I buy discount premium denim?

I got burned a few months ago on a site that I thought I could trust. It's a very well organized, nice looking, and popular site. Well, it's one of several sites that fit that description. I used to get discount designer jeans on a couple of different sites and I can't even remember which one it was! The fact that I can't avoid that site even though I want to, is one reason I've just been buying jeans at sales and outlets. That may not sound to bad, but the prices are just not comparable. Do you have any sites that have been reliable for you for a long time? Have any premium denim sites that you want to warn other people about?

My thought exactly. Although maybe you are referring only to websites? In that case, Bluefly is reputable.

Beth, sure I have, but they don't have the variety I'm looking for, and they're still just not as cheap as the online shops. Maybe its not that any one site is always cheaper, but that there is a much larger pool of sales and discount online at any one time. My sources of discount denim in my area consists of about 3 stores that aren't even that big. Well, except for Nordstrom itself, which is huge, but doesn't have nearly enough denim sales, and only carries my favorite brands in the typical choices of dark rinse or light rinse and nothing else.

Chewyspaghetti, have you had luck with specific retailers on ebay. There are so many horror stories of buying premium denim on ebay (such as buying counterfeits) that I wouldn't suggest ebay unless it was a specific retailer.

I literally have never gotten a real pair of designer jeans on ebay. Once I bought a pair that felt like paper when I took them out of the box, and then ripped down the knee (not even along a seem) when I sat down while trying them on. A while later, I tried testing ebay one more time by buying a pair of jeans that appeared to be from a seller who was just an individual women selling off last seasons wardrobe, (as opposed to sellers that mysteriously have 50 pairs of my favorite style available at one time) and I still got burned. How does anyone manage to buy jeans on ebay? I would love some tips.

I have always had the best luck with sellers who are not stores or businesses, but Jane Q Public, just trying to save a few bucks by selling off her personal clothing.

Chewy, I think I might risk trying it again. Hopefully I'll find an individual seller on ebay who doesn't also buy most of her clothes on ebay. *crosses fingers*

I haven't had any really bad experiences buying premium denim at a discount, but I would caution potential buyers about one thing that happened.

If you Google a particular brand and style of jean (e.g., "Citizens of Humanity Amber"), the links you get in your search results will take you directly to the page showing that pair of jeans. I once did this and bought the jeans, only to find out that they were "Final Sale." It did not say Final Sale on the page featuring this pair of jeans, it only said it on the gateway page that led to the sale items. I had never seen that page since I went directly to the jeans I was interested in, so I missed that piece of information completely.

Caveat emptor.

Mochaccino, when you buy *anything* on ebay, especially something pricey, be sure and read the feedback each seller gets and beware of new sellers. I try and stick with the 'power sellers' who have earned the top level and read thru their return policies first....
