I realized most of my latest purchases have either been upgrades or to plug wardrobe holes. Simultaneously I am finally letting go of more of the 'okay' items in my closet. These have nothing inherently wrong with them, they just aren't working for me. Taking the multi color silk strapless dress with tags still on it to consignment tomorrow, finally. OR, I am wearing them and shouldn't be. Like my olive green shorts that used to be capris. Looked at the last few pics in them and they make my bottom half look like a big rectangle. My shape has changed and they have worn to fitting differently. Together it is no longer working. Getting rid of the Leifsdottir tiered tube skirt that just comes up to high in front for me. I'm always pulling on it. Out they went.
I have settled into the right size wardrobe for me, after number crunching and viewing my actual rates of wear and need for variety. Around 30 tops, 30 bottoms, 30 'toppers' (sweaters, coats & jackets), 15 dresses, and 25 shoes. I am still a hair over in some spots. I have a jacket or two to purge, and about 3 or 4 dresses. But I'm pretty much there.
That means what is left is replacing and upgrading. It's a great spot to be in, and so far I've enjoyed several of my latest such purchases. I am about done for this year, but next year looks to be when I can finally get some of those big ticket items like suede pants and a peacoat. Color me excited!
