Where did all the sleeves go?

Someone stole all the sleeves on dresses!

I cannot be the only woman who works in arctic AC, can I? I see so many pretty dresses, but they are all sleeveless. Perhaps they are meant to be paired with a jacket, but then much of the pretty details are lost. And, of course, finding jackets that fit are such a pain.

Who decreed thou shalt only make sleeveless dresses!?! Women across the country shall freeze in their offices, bwuahahahhana!

While we are bringing back skirts with some length to them, can we add dresses with sleeves?

Oh, and I think I need some coffee this morning.

HA! You are preaching to the choir, here, girl.

Angie did a post on some decent sleeved spring/ summer dresses a while back. They require a post, because finding them is a job that only an expert stylist can perform!

For me it is okay since I don't have AC. But for the rest of the world? I shiver.

Maybe I'm the only one who celebrates sleeveless dresses? The reason you ask...it is hot here in the summer so they work beautifully in the heat. Plus I love to wear different toppers which are a must in my office, which is like some sort of meat locker it's so cold. Sleeveless dresses offer me the perfect layering ability for hot and cold, which I experience both of every day in the summer.

But I do feel for those of you who crave sleeves 'cause they are scarce during the warm months.

I am looking for sleeves AND longer lengths - last time I found one, I bought it in blue and black - hahaha; I haven't seen any for a while.

I secretly think it's just more expensive to manufacture.

I have been following the "requests" board on ModCloth - and it seems that longer lengths and sleeves are common requests, but there is such variation it is hard to make it universal for everyone - ie: some people have bigger arms than others, so when they were making sleeves, everyone complained that the sleeves were too tight.

I guess we can't make everyone happy

I'm with Janet - where's the length? I don't mind sleeveless because it works well under jackets.
Oh and I think you can blame Michelle Obama for all the sleeveless looks - she has such great arms that all the designers have used her as their muse for summer frocks :-).

Don't get me started on lack of sleeves and too short frock/skirt lengths. Truly, this is THE RANT above ALL RANTS.

I'm a fan of the sleeveless myself, because I run hot, but I sympathize with those of you who want the sleeves. I wish there were more variety!

One thing you can do is get more cardigans. I have several and they get a lot of wear. I have many sleeveless tops and I often find myself stuffing a cardi in my bag "just in case".

Agreed and if we are ordering I would like some sleeve options - not just caps or sleeveless. Also making tea - to warm up

I'll add that I LOVE to wear sleeveless clothes actually. But it does not work in a/c, and for me it only works in 90 degree plus weather because I run very cold. PLUS!! When it's really hot (above 100 degrees), I like to cover up and protect my skin from the sun. It was advice from my late Mum that I take to heart. You'll find that in the hottest countries in the world, people cover up to protect themselves from the sun.

I miss sleeves also, especially as I get older. I find that even the slightest, but well styled overhang from the shoulder can be more flattering than a completely absent sleeve. For me, what is even worse are the tank style dresses with ultra low armpits and lots of shoulder reveal. Shudder.

Length can also be a big issue, even though I am only 5'7"- my height is in my legs and I don't feel comfortable with things 4 inches above my knees. Very aggravating when the rest of the dress is perfect.

I am with you on covering up from the sun. When I was in india, I wore long sleeved white shirts everywhere. Yes, I was hot, but I sunburn in about 15 minutes here in Wisconsin, so I imagine I would fry in about 5 there!

And yes, I work in Arctic AC. I imagine a lot of ladies do! Don;t see men's clothes suddenly lose their sleeves in summer *Rant Rant*

I could do a cardi, but I do so like wrap dresses, and some with pretty drapes and I have not found a cardi that works well. My jacket hunt continues.

Don't get my talking about sleeved dresses.... Much more important - you are finding longer length skirts? It's rare that I see a casual dress in our local stores that's long enough and I'm not even tall!

Try finding sleeved cocktail dresses. That's what I wear for the opera. It's even harder to find.

Oh, I am only 5'7" too. Sigh. Sometimes, I think it must be easier being 4' tall. Lol.

Joining rant and stomping feet. I also rant about there not being enough summer-weight tops with sleeves--nothing but sleeveless shells.

I agree I think it is because it is much harder to create these to fit across a range of body types (within size) with sleeves--the fit just has to be more precise, shoulder seam has to be in the right place, sleeve length, short or long, is different for each person, lots of things. And, dresses with sleeves do not, for the most part, layer as well under a jacket or cardigan as sleeveless. The easy way out is just make everything sleeveless.

Yep, I think that's why I actually prefer sleeveless, because I can get them to fit right over my wide shoulders. A dress with sleeves that fits well in the shoulders and the waist, and is long enough? Now you're talking dream world.

I suspect a conspiracy. First to save money on fabric and work that sleeves would take. Second, to force us to buy toppers, thus we spend more.
Actually, if you are of an age to have hot flashes, you will want to be able to strip down to bare arms in seconds

Thistle, I think there is definitely a market for a label that just makes dresses with sleeves I have often thougt I could source all such dresses and create an online store 'Dresses with Sleeves' Lol... well Im laughing but I am actually very serious

Agree that sleeved cocktail dresses (even a delicate cap sleeve) do not exist. The only good news is that there seem to be more that are not strapless lately.
