When your favorite blogger just stops writing, with no explanation...what do you do?

Just curious, as this seems to be happening to me of late. Two examples:

-- Reggie Darling
-- An Affordable Wardrobe

What do you do when this happens to you? Or maybe it's never happened...

Do you keep checking back to see if there's any new content?

Or do you try to email the blogger to ask about it?

Or do you ask the Universe AKA Google about it?

The author of An Affordable Wardrobe explaind why he stopped. I loved that blog! I still have it in my favorites, check on it now and then. I started looking at blogs when I discovered "Preppy Cafe" about 4 or 5 years ago. Then I checked out her blog roll, discovered other favorites. When I come across something I like, I look at the archives, and decide if I want to keep up with it on a regular basis. Some other good menswear blogs: Put This On, A Suitable Wardrobe, Ask Andy About Clothes, A Thrifty Gent. ( I love men's clothing, have worked in retail menswear for years. Wish our wardrobing was as simple!) Check them out and then check their blog rolls and you'll have plenty to look at!

retailgirl !!! Thank you for your very nice and helpful answer. I had recommended AAW to my husband so we were both wondering about it. I will go back and check that site for the "why" of its demise. Personally I am astonished at the amount of people who are willing to share their personal lives and a lot of time writing blog entries. I know some people make a living at it and it has become quite an industry. I am very thankful for Angie, Greg and Inge and the amount of helpful information and inspiration that they provide all of us.

All that being said, I can appreciate the "why" of stopping a blog, but not without an explanation to those whom you once courted as "followers". Over and out...

I follow blogs through Bloglovin, so new posts can be easily seen if they appear. Sometimes bloggers do resurface after a break, as they end up missing blogging.

Like ornella I sign up for email notifications of new posts from blogs I like. Saves time from frequently checking back x

I read blogs via an RSS reader as well, so I often don't even notice when someone misses a few days. Some blogs are more personal and individual, like some of the sewing blogs I read, and I comment often so I might check back and comment to see if they're still around. Others I don't feel like I know as well so I'd just leave them in my blog reader and see if they show up again.

Ornella, Louise, Laura (rhubarbgirl) -- thanks for the tip on using a blog reader. I do not know much about them but have never signed up as my husband and I travel quite a bit and I have not wanted to receive a lot of emails while we were traveling...just no time to read them. So I sorta thought I should wait and access them "on demand". Maybe I should rethink that.

Mander -- yes, me too! Especially when someone has written about a precarious situation and you think "maybe they died or something". I think I need to work on my detachment skills! Thanks for sharing, you went right to the core of my question.

I use an app (Feedly) for reading my subscribed blogs; I don't get emails. I also don't notice if a blogger misses a few days.

I don't get emails either. I use The Old Reader. I've heard bloglovin is also a great tool to use.

I've never quite figured out how to use a blog reader, so I'll keep watching this thread to find out more. I do hate it when a much-enjoyed blog goes silent, and I too wonder what has happened to the writer when they don't post an explanation. I do find myself occasionally going back to check on a few old favorites that suddenly stopped, but I have not yet found any that did really start back up.

bloglovin is an excellent way to keep up on any blogs that you follow.
Yes it is disappointing when a blogger suddenly stops posting without any explanation.
But I think it is a huge amount of work to do a blog, I thought about doing one and even named one, but you have to come up with subjects, day after day, after day!!!

This as also happened twice to me. I also worry terribly. Both times I contacted othe bloggers that followed them. But no one knew anything. The first one wrote a short post about 8 months in that she was dealing with a personal matter and would return soon, it has been 3 years. : (

The other I ran across as commenter on another blog years later and she had started another blog at that time. Though now she s not posting again due to personal reasons. I cannot believe someone with a life outside blogging can do it regularly at all..
