When you want the unwearable political t-shirt (not about politics)

The last few weeks have produced some whoppers as far as political speech and more than once I have been tempted to throw cash down on a charity t-shirt emblazoned with some text. Then reality sinks in: I swore to DH I wouldn't wear unisex tees any more. I don't need more gym tees. I don't even like people reading my chest. So far I have not bought.

What else to do? I did once make a pillow out of a t-shirt that I adored. But my house is as full as my closet and I try to make it a respite from the world anyway. So no political tees for me. Right now all I'm collecting are screen grabs. Maybe I'll make a vision board or something out of them for my laptop. But I'm not wearing my heart on my sleeve just yet. Any creative ideas?

I saw a quilt made out of tees. They were race tees - marathons, etc. If you're arty, I could imagine a picture made with the screen shots. Usually if I see things like you mention, I send the pictures to my friends. I already have a lot of unfinished projects, so I have to be diligent not to start any new ones.

You could do a quilt or a purse. You could do political earings. A nice patch.

You could wear them backwards so the design is on your back, not chest
I do lots of chopping on unisex tees to turn them into sleeveless scoop necks for summer, often cutting off the bottom to crop them a bit.
Something more subtle than a shirt like a pendent might be better for expressing yourself. I am still wearing a safety pin, usually a big one as a pendent.

Ledonna's post made me think of the tees I've seen turned into fabric shopping bags. I will try to get a photo but Pinterest must have many how-to ideas. The one I have did not involve any sewing, just cutting and knotting. Maybe an apron?

Quilt. Or a print of the words for your wall. Or a print of the words on cards to write to your friends.

I love the idea of a quilt, can't have too many of them around. Of course, that means spending more money to get enough tees to make one. I've seen some cool memory quilts too made out of tees.

I did buy a patch, but it has a destination, which is a topic for a whole other post.

I, too, enjoy the slogans but don't wear unisex tees or even the tees from races etc.
I've found that most slogans are available on buttons (great on a denim jacket if you want to express yourself) and on notecards (if you want to cheer yourself up when opening the fridge or sitting down at your desk).

I made a couple of tote bags from T-shirts. Found a video on line. I keep them in the car now because Chicago now has a bag tax for all stores.

T-shirts are from the devil for this very reason. Just kidding!! But I have acquired a 'Hella Kitty' tee shirt, because it speaks to my obsession with my Native Wear, but what the heck now am I supposed to do with it? I don't want it up on my walls, on my body, or just anything. And I don't want to ruin it either by, oh say, wearing it to paint the laundry...

Yep, tote bags and cloth grocery bags. I have sewing patterns for both and have made the cloth grocery bags many times (but always out of fabric remnants) but never the purse. I'd try Ledonna's suggestion of a you tube video. I saw a purse made with an Aerosmith tee shirt (the tongue sticking out) and I've been wanting to make one for myself.
