When wearing heels...do you get used to feeling so tall?

Ok, so I am dying to get and wear some cute summer wedges. I am finding that the flatter heels just aren't doing it for me with some outfits. However, being 5'6" standing barefoot with my hair flattened down, most wedge sandals put me over 5'9" tall. The actual heel isn't uncomfortable, I've found, because of the platform. The slope is only like a 2"-2.5" heel. But, it feels so weird to me to be that tall. Is that a feeling you get over?

I'm short to begin with, but regularly wear 4+ inch heels, and sometimes I feel odd when I'm not in them--I feel so short! So I think you'll get used to it.

Although I'm 1,63 m (5' 3''???) I feel too tall with wedges but that's because I'm so used to wear flats.I'm sure you'll get over it.

I wear all different heel heights and I honestly don't "feel" the height difference from one day to the next. So based on my experience I'd say yes, you will get used to it!

I wear different heel heighths too,Maryk. But, for some reason if I go over 2.5" I feel like I am sky high.

Is there such a thing as Team Wannabe? As in, lusting after the look, but can quite make it a reality because of various reasons.

I love being tall. I was very bummed when my doctor remeasured my height and I was only 5'7" instead of being 5'8". I regularly wear 4" heels and even own some that are over 5".

For example, I love this look from Kendi with the pink checked shirt, shorts and wedge heels. I could totally see myself wearing it, except for the heighth on those cute wedges. But, to wear flats with the outfit would really change the look.

I don't think it's about my actual heighth, but more about the height difference. Does that make sense? Like Celia said, even though she's petite, she feels too tall in heels because she's not used to it.

I definitely had to get over it. But now I wear high shoes so often at work that I have to "get over" feeling short and stumpy every weekend. :T

Yup! You can get over it in a hurry-lol....my DH complains when Im nearly eye-level, but I LOVE it!

I wear heels of all different heights and only notice the change in perspective when I first put them on or take them off. I think you'll get used to it pretty quickly once you're wearing them and going about your day. It's like wearing a push up bra - at first the extra oomph is a bit surprising and you might bump into things that you normally wouldn't, but you soon get used to where your body ends and off you go.

I don't notice height, but after wearing heels for so long it is a challenge to wear flats. My hamstrings are shorter and my legs get tired in flats.

I do feel really tall in my tallest shoes (but at 5 foot five, I know that I am actually not). Luckily, it doesn't bother my husband that we look like TomKat when I am in my big shoes.

In my tallest shoes (probably about 3.5" platforms; normally, I don't go over 2.5") I feel really tall right when I put them on and suddenly everything in my apartment is a bit shorter... but the feeling generally goes away the minute I step outside and there are really tall things like trees and street lamps.

I am less than 5'4" without shoes on though... so I like a little extra height now and then... unless I happen to end up in a room full of short people and then I feel like a giant (which has actually happened to me... at a family wedding with a lot of short relatives!)

I'm just shy of 5'6" and i love wearing heels. I love feeling tall, more confident and my outfits more put together. I think the more you do it the more you just get used to it? My best friend is 5'9" and still wears 4-5 inchers and she loves it too.

The shoes I wear most often are a pair of Dansko professional clogs that have a 2" heel and 1" platform. I noticed that I was taller when I first got them and I liked it (I'm just short of 5'6"). I often wear flats and 3" heels too. I like the taller feeling in the heels, but alas, I got used to it and now don't really notice the difference as much.

Sounds like it's just an initial feeling that goes away. I think the weirdest thing for me was when I was wearing 3.5" wedges and I bent over to pick up my toddler. He seemed sooo far away. Then, also, my teens are getting close to my height, but don't wear heels (especially not my son, hehe) and I feel like a giant in heels. That should be a good thing, but feels odd because I'm not used to it.

I routinely wear three inch heels. This puts me at 6' 1" at a minimum. I love it and embrace it. But it was not always this way. I once viewed my height as a curse, and now I think it is a wonderful blessing. So I hold my head high and walk tall. For me it is a matter of mindset and confidence. Hope this helps.

I think the only times I notice are when I am standing next to someone who is actually taller than me (like my boyfriend), but is shorter when I am in my tall heels. Fortunately he doesn't seem to mind! Otherwise, as long as the shoes are comfortable to stand and walk in, I really don't notice a height difference from day to day when I switch between flats and my 2-3" heels.

I love it! I'm not short (5'7") but I welcome feeling taller. It doesn't hurt that my husband is 6'6" so I get a little closer to his level.

Cileena, are you the voice inside my head ??? I JUST started wearing a little bit of a heel. I am 5'5 and feel monstrous, even in a 2 inch heel. Though Teri inspires me greatly. And I too am Team Wannabe.

I know that a big piece for me is that I just feel clumsy in the shoes. I twist my ankle in Keds !

I don't feel any different but I think it's because I wear a variety of heel heights regularly and even in 5 inch heels, I'm still the shortest person in the room. xD

I used to wear running shoes every single day when I was doing my Bachelor's degree, and I remember when I switched over to actually changing my shoes every once in a while. I definitely worked my way up to about 5 inch heels, and it doesn't feel weird anymore. Well, sometimes it does when I can actually look someone in the eye instead of having to look up at them. xD

Well I'm 5"10 in flats so I can say based on height alone, yes you do get used to it. In some of my social circles I am already a giant at that height, let alone when I wear one of my small collection of heels. Since I already feel taller than everyone else it doesn't make that much differene to me however. I do prefer environments where that isn't the case however, but such is life!

My legs are short in proportion to my body, so heels even me out - but my fussy feet make it difficult to wear most styles. I've found salvation in some cushy Clark's platforms that are super comfy. I LOVE that little boost of height now (I'm 5'4") and I've quickly become addicted. I actually feel short when I don't wear my heels now!

Yes, you will get over it, if you get in the habit of wearing heels most of the time. If you only wear them occasionally, you'll probably always feel weirdly tall when you have them on, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Five foot nine is hardly freakishly tall! Embrace your inner Amazon woman and strut forth with confidence.

My average shoe height is 3.5" and that is what I'm most comfortable in (at 5'7"). I feel like heels balance out my shape best, plus with high arches flats just plain hurt.
You do get used to it. As Heather mentioned above, I feel weird when I put on my only "flats" - workout tennies.
I just got some 5" clogs and I feel a little teetery, but that's how I felt in my 4" shoes when I first got them - and now it's fine.

Tarzy-Are those platforms you speak of the Clarks Long Ponds? I had those and sent them back because I was afraid of the heighth, even though they were super comfy for heels. Now, I am thinking about ordering them again because I really wish I had at least one pair of casual heels in my wardrobe, just for variety.
