I have to admit, I’m enjoying some specific styles that are prevailing in retail now. I’ve been investing in some that I intend to continue wearing even when they start cycling out of favor, because they work for my preferred style, body type, and lifestyle.

1) Wide-legged and bootcut full length jeans and trousers — I never really gave them up, and I’ll keep wearing them even if skinnies come back to being a big thing.

2) Crop length tops in loose, even boxy shapes — tees and button-front shirts in shorter lengths that skim the top of the hip, but don’t bare the midriff. They work well for my proportions and climate (nice and breezy in warm weather, and good on a short torso), and eliminate the struggle with semi-tucking or tying at the waist, which can feel a little fussy. I have bought a few shorter tops in the past year and they became such workhorses that I invested in alterations for some older tops to shorten them. Game-changer!

3) Green seems to be having a moment, so I’m working it. I love green but in recent years it’s all been dull yellow-olive shades, which aren’t the best on me. I’m thrilled to see more mint, seafoam, emerald, Kelly, and teal come back around.

There are plenty of other trends I’m happy to ignore or enjoy on others, but I’ve learned to pick and choose more wisely and not be too tempted by styles that don’t have longevity in my wardrobe.

How about you? Are there any current trends that are inspiring you to stock up?
