An interesting question! I’d take it to mean no ‘nylon’ sneakers. As in leather sneaker-styled oxfords with a ‘rubber’ sole would be ok. Curious as to the actual answer here from someone in England!
I think they are referring to all of them, even fashion sneakers, and would mean the dress code is “smart casual.” Many clubs in London have a no trainers rule or at least they used to. What’s the occasion?
Agree with @Cardiff - no need for heels (like I said before, we aren't *that* dressy of a nation) but you could probably get away with something with a sole similar to what @rachy describes (so long as it's tonal & blends in, i.e. not white rubber) & in a dressier fabric.
Do you have some examples of what type of shoes you're considering?
Oh I just saw that you linked those shoes above, @em - unfortunately I think the combination of white 'lug' sole & white shoelaces casualise them a tad
You mentioned 'not white' but not sure whether you're referring to the shoe body or these details (above) not being white?
