When is the best time to shop for the Australia winter?

I missed it this year (May is too late). And looking back on a post I made last year I missed it then too!!

I need a plan for next year and I'm going to start scheduling a date now on my phone calendar with numerous reminders!

(What I find difficult is that our summer weather lasts til late April. In addition I usually get a Westfield gift card to help with my winter shopping, and so I have to get around to ordering that, and waiting for it to be delivered)

If your retail is like ours, I guess that you should start looking in January and February, or whenever the new merchandise starts arriving in stores.
The NAS sale with fall/winter items is about 4 months before cold weather arrives.

Thanks Joy - yes "whenever the new merchandise starts arriving in stores" is what I'm trying to work out.

I'm sure some of the keener Australian shoppers will chime in soon - after all this is a shopping 101 sort of question, I'd think!

Hi Anne. Its Feb to March for the winter stuff to come in store. I know its nuts when its about bazillion degrees. The stuff I am hard to fit for I start knocking on doors around Australia day. Some of the stores and ranges will show you what is coming in store and when, colour schemes etc. Country Road, witchery etc will tend to have a spend and save event in March or so which i try and get things at. However its never a perfect system... its just got cold here and I have no casual hoodie type things... makes dog walking pretty chilly of a morning!

Jenanded, that's exactly the sort of thing I wanted to know - both the "hard to fit for" and the "spend and save" etc.

Wonderful!

Will start programming my calendar accordingly - and have to start thinking about winter way earlier than I have been.

Hope you find your hoodie. One of the things I haven't found (which I am sure I saw last winter in Kmart or Big W) was an inexpensive close fitting, lightweight zip up jacket, in a colourful colour (for running or cycling)

You should come for a weekend in Brissie - there's heaps of warm stuff in the shops, it never gets cold enough to really need the full winter weight material! Even now, it's just starting to cool down a bit, but I still can't face the winter woollies on the shelves. Such a shame because winter was always my fav shopping season - though I must say, I don't miss the cold itself.
I wandered past Katies yesterday and they seemed to have a lot of new stuff in stock, I wonder if they have anything interesting, or they might run a bit large for you.

Hi Lucy,

There's plenty of winter stuff here too, just often my size sells out, or the particular style I want. I have checked out Katies here. I got a good top from them last year.

My recent nude mary jane shoes came all the way from Rockhampton. They were sold out in my size from Ziera's Australia-wide. The lady in Rockhampton said people had bigger feet in her area!

Funnily enough I was in Brisbane in the last couple of weeks (a very quick packed visit - red-eye over and full conference programme) and had no time to shop! But very frustratingly I saw of onemy HEWIs in a Topshop window there. Back home I popped into Topshop here and it wasn't there - and also discovered that Topshop is out of my budget.

Anne, check out Coles for their mix brand hoodies... last week they were 2 for 29$. Not cute colours just greys blues etc... but fine for getting sweaty and going into the wash.

Kmart are doing cheap "active wear " . I got a jacket like you're describing last year. I'm not sure what they have this season. I'm trying not to look so I'm not tempted!
As for timing the shopping, I was looking at winter stock in March. I am sure the shops make the AC much colder then so we think we need those winter woolies! Mind you, I bought a denim dress then, and still haven't worn it.
The stock also varies from store to store. After missing out on items, like you did when travelling , I just buy when I find the right thing. (Angie said I'm worth full price so i believe her!)

Helen - yes I'm sure I saw them in Kmart last year. Why didn't I just buy them!!??

[Reason being that it takes me far too long to mull over the idea of buying something before I actually do it!]

Mind you, they don't have many white jeans left at my Kmart!

Finally, someone realises we don't have much of a winter! On a side note, it frustrates me that once the winter stock comes in (March ) it's almost impossible to buy a child's short sleeved shirt.
Even at Kmart, I buy on the spot and make a trip back to return items if I have second thoughts. Otherwise my size or colour will be gone for sure.
