when is the best time to shop for fall?

When are the stores fully stocked for the season? I do not want to buy too much now for fear that things I like better are not in stores yet. Angie, Taylor- what is the time frame for fall clothes coming to the stores?

I'm not an expert but I can tell you that BR right now seems to be close (though not quite) to "full fall mode" - not so much, Ann Taylor and ATL. I went shopping yesterday and was disappointed in AT but quite delighted by BR. I bought 5 sweaters!! All different, all - I'm sure - will be wardrobe workhorses this fall and winter. To me, sweaters say "Fall" more than anything....

My sense - now that you ask this question - is that this is earlier than usual. In past years, there was more of a "rolling thunder" - with new items coming in every week. Perhaps the recession is changing things?

Jean, I don't think everything for fall is out yet..You should see ALOT in the next few weeks:).

The salesperson at ATL remarked while I was out this weekend that this was the first wave for fall, and more would soon be coming. When I worked at F&T, they generally had at least two waves for the season, so it was never all at once once a quarter.

Shiny! How nice to see you chime in!

Now that it's getting cooler out, I finally feel ready to start looking at fall clothes! But it sounds like I'll have to be a bit patient til all of the good stuff is out!
