When boots go AWOL...

I dropped my Ugg Cortonas off to be soled with grippy rubber. They will not be back for a little while. Meanwhile, I have been forced to pull out my other neglected boots (though the Gidigios get a lot of play, I can't wear them daily). It's been good for me to revisit all the boots I loved but neglect because they require more creativity.

Do you cope well when a workhorse goes AWOL?

No - I do not cope well at all! Even when it's something as simple as just taking something to the drycleaners and I'll get it back in 2 days. I procrastinate taking it, because I worry that something might come up in which that in-need-of-drycleaning-item will be the perfect piece - and even though its dirty, I would wear it anyway, because I'm afraid there would be nothing else in my wardrobe to fill in while it's AWOL!

Haha, I am with Marley! I misplaced (read: actually hung up in its proper spot and forgot about) my favorite black shell for a couple weeks, and I was completely miserable.

Luckily, my boots rarely go AWOL. But then I have so many of those, and it's easier for me to work with an unexpected shoe than an unexpected foundation garment.

I work in software, so the dress code is pretty casual. As an experiment last year, I didn't replace either of my blue jeans when they wore out. It was a heck of a lot of work, and there were some definitely un-fab outfits, but for the most part I enjoyed the challenge.

Not to say I was pathetically grateful when I buckled 2 months later and bought jeans ... just that sometimes a little fasting is necessary to help you be grateful for your feast, ya know?

I'm awful about taking boots in to get resoled mid-season because of this. I think it's worse because I always think I should be efficient by taking in more than one pair, which somehow results in me not taking any in at all because I don't want to be missing multiple pairs of workhorse boots at once.

So I always end up bringing a giant sackful of winter footwear into the tailor/cobbler around May, then hating myself when I end up paying a ridiculous amount of $$$ all at once to maintain shoes that I'm not even going to need again for ages.

I haven't taken my leather jacket to get repaired because I'm afraid to go without it (the lining in the sleeves is pretty badly torn). Still trying to work myself up to it ...

My winter boots died today...the zipper has been acting up, and while I was trying to decide whether to get a new pair or just have the zippers replaced, the one zipper decided to quit working completely. I don't really want to stick a bunch of money in a new pair, since I'd rather that money go to something more fashion minded than snow boots, so I guess I'm calling the cobbler tomorrow. *sigh* But my La Canadienne riding boots will fill the spot until I can get the other ones back.

Gosh ladies, I don't think this has happened to me yet but it doesn't sound pleasant! Maybe I don't love anything enough!

Ah, 1/4 of my wardrobe is inaccessible when I'm in FL. I miss the items, but just work around. Climate wise, I can get by, but style wise I miss tons of stuff left behind.
