What's your superpower?

I could use a fun, cheerful thread. Things have been frantic pre-Christmas and I've been a bit ill. (Even better: in the middle of writing this post I had to stop and go clean up some dog vomit.)

So how about a discussion of superpowers? This is a running joke in my family. Your superpower is something you can do that's unusual and always surprises people, even if it's kind of silly. My superpowers are:
- I have better than 20/20 vision. Everyone else in my family needs glasses, so I'm like a genetic freak.
- I can consciously choose to stop being ticklish.
- I can wiggle my pinky toe without moving any of my other toes.

I can wiggle my ears with the best of them and hula hoop with the best of them. I also do a surprisingly good American accent.

I can turn my eyelids inside out and blink at you. I have 'extra ankles' on each foot - bones that stick out right below each ankle. But I don't know if that's a superpower. More like a hindrance in finding collars to fit on many types shoes.

I can rub my tummy and pat my head at the same time and write in a straight line on plain paper! x

Hmm. I've never thought about this before but I don't think I have any "superpowers." I'm not very unique.

I also have perfect vision although my parents both started wearing glasses at a young age!

Hee hee -- we have this same conversation. SO says that his superpower is that "he can always eat." I can raise my left eyebrow independently of the right, effectively conveying skepticism. This is apparently genetic, as my mother and son have the same ability (same eyebrow).

My husband has the superpower to be able to fall asleep at any time. He also can erect a stinky forcefield to keep people at bay

My superpowers:

I can touch my nose with my tongue.

My thumb bends back to a perfect 90 degree angle.

I don't know if it's a superpower but I eat with my fork or spoon resting on my ring finger, not my middle finger.

I can take a nap at almost anytime no matter how much caffeine I've had.

Due to being drilled in high school chorus, I can sing the complete Hallelujah chorus including harmonies.

I have an uncanny knack for choosing the most expensive thing in a store and coveting it.

Angie, I'm trying to imagine you working a hula hoop photo into a blog post - maybe while you're wearing a formal gown?. That would be hilarious.

i can pinch people and pick up small objects with my toes. but like all superpowers must remain disguised. no, i will not demonstrate unless plied with cupcakes, yeeessss, cuuupcaaaakessss.

This thread is super fun!
I have an absolutely freakish memory. I can remember phone numbers that my friends used back in the 80's. At the age of four, I had memorized every word of Charlotte's Web by E.B. White. Mom and Dad used to play a game by asking me to "read" chapter x or y, and I'd just launch in.
Because my eyes are prosthetic, I can also put a finger directly on it without flinching. It drives people crazy.
I also have perfect musical pitch. Twas very useful in my chhoir days, but ffew things drive me battier than a badly tuned piano.
If Corey has the hiccups, he can just will them to stop. It takes no more than 30 seconds and works every time. I, on the other hand, have to deal with them for sometimes hours on end. :p

My superpower is that if you invite me to give a speech and tell me the allotted time, I will wrap it up EXACTLY on time. Doesn't matter if it's 10 minutes or two hours, I can make the material fit the time slot each and every time.

my super power is that I can sign the alphabet - it was shown to me ONCE by a partially deaf housemate 20+ years ago, and every letter just made perfect sense to me and stuck. I rarely us it, but when I need to it all just comes to my hands.

Michelle, did you make an effort to remember the book, or did you have it read to you lots, or did it just sort of sink it?

DH has better than 20/20 vision, too, and has had since I started studying optometry 20 years ago! I check, regularly, to catch him out, and haven't yet....

Hmm, I share some superpowers with some of you that I forgot! Licking my nose is one and so is signing the alphabet, oh and reciting pi to 21 digits without a second thought. I agree my double ankles are more a super hindrance!!

My super power is finding things. My kids call me the Queen of Finding Things. I know where EVERYTHING is in this house. Ta da!

What a fun thread! I had no idea how many secret talents we all have.

I read incredibly fast. I can also read upside down very easily, and my toes are long and quite dexterous. When I was little I could pick up a pencil with my toes and write (though quite badly), but I'm out of practice now.

Hmmm...I seem to have an uncanny ability to notice insects roaming...even when I don't want to.

I can twist my tongue into a circle or u shape as well as twist it to the left, but I can't twist it to the right.

Medusa, we have the same pinky toe powers!

When I'm in pain, I'm very quiet and calm. On the other hand, if I'm angry....

Like Kari, I read very quickly. DH likes to make fun of how quickly I turn pages!

I can also roll my tongue like a taco. This must be genetic, as my dad and both sibs can do it too. My mom can't, though.

Like Kari, I have monkey feet. Some of this is because as a young girl I was -positive- I would meet, fall in love with and marry a chimpanzee so I practiced such things. (I think maybe I did, but don't tell DH)

I can quote obscure movies in a single bound.

I have a very high pain tolerance.

I can walk on my hands.

Oh, and this is a borderline superpower at best, but on a good day I can type accurately at 90 wpm.

RandomThought, I'm the same way with movie quotations. My sister and I can practically carry on a conversation that consists just of lines from our favorite movies.

A superpower that I definitely *dont'* have is being ambidextrous. I am 100% right-side dominant throughout my entire body, including my right eye and right ear, which are actually weaker. My left hand is basically only useful for typing and playing the flute.
I would be a laughingstock at a European dinner table because I absolutely cannot hold silverware properly with my left hand, and would have to resort to the American style of holding my fork in my left hand while cutting with my right, and then switching my fork over to my right hand to eat.

Okay, Random Thoughts - you and my BF must have been sibling twins separated at birth! He does all of the above and I admire you both for the walking on your hands feat! You had me lol with the marrying a monkey. hey, now that I think about it, my dad always told me I looked like a spider monkey when I was a kid, so I guess my BF ended up with a monkey, too. See, you were separated at birth, I knew it!!

I can fall asleep within 5 mins of riding in any kind of conveyance (well, maybe not a motorcycle ). Unfortunately, this has caused me to miss many a stop when I was commuting to work on public transportation!

I don't think I really have any superpowers - lots of odd flaws perhaps!

I need specs, but my right eye is dramatically better than my left - most new optometrists check it a couple of times LOL. Without specs and my right eye closed, I really only make out big blobby blurs!

My girls think its amazing that I can hear them *scheming* in their bedroom and stop them before they create havoc ROFL

Picking up things with your toes seems like a really useful superpower. You never know when you might be tied up by the bad guys but able to reach the keys to the handcuffs with your toes. RandomThought, your plans to marry a chimpanzee is the cutest story!

Finding things is a superpower I really wish I had!

Unfortunately my tendency is to lose things instead in obscure places. My mom found a bra in my sofa cushions when she was over at my place the other day that I lost weeks ago while sorting laundry!

Organization: I'm a hardcore minimalist and die-hard neat freak. I'm constantly assessing, decluttering, and rearranging things...wherever I am! Seriously, I could start a business and give Peter What's-his-name a run for his money...

Natural childbirth without drugs: I waterbirthed my daughter in a jacuzzi at a birthing center; and I homebirthed my son in the master bathtub. Both births were textbook perfect.

Long-term bre@stfeeding: I nursed my daughter for 17 months; and I nursed my son for 2.5 years. I am now officially CONCAVE!

lwc, I could definitely use the help of you and your super power around here! Organization is not one of my talents even though my mother is amazing at it!

Despite having a horrible memory these days, I can still remember the role call from my first grade class, and that was over 30 years ago. I also have a bionic sense of smell according to my husband.

My husband's gift is being a baby whisperer. He's the oldest of 10 kids and has an amazing ability to put babies to sleep. People at church love to find him and hand him their crying babies for that reason, and for years people have thought we have more children than we do because he always seems to have a baby in his arms.
