The color black is my Achilles Heel. It is not my best color but I keep it
because it is available in my size all the time so fits in my closet.

Sometimes it’s Breton tops, sometimes it’s flannel shirts. I’m on the flannel end of the pendulum swing right now!

Hands down, it's footwear. I'm embarrassed to say exactly how much footwear I have. Earrings and the color orange are a close second and third.

Jackets and coats are mine. I put myself on a ban of buying more but I think two years has been long enough.

Dresses! My body runs hot (thanks, menopause) and I live in a warm, humid climate. Put the two together, and for 6 months of the year I wear nothing but. Even skirts are out, as the waistband sitting firmly against my skin feels unbearably hot and airless. Plus I’ve come to appreciate their ‘one and done’ aspect, and also the fact that nothing can twist or ride up, as it’s all connected. So my dress side of the wardrobe has exploded and frankly, it’s the only one that gets used for most of the year.

Mine will surprise no Fabbers, shoes of course. I have slowed my roll with them and got down to 36 pairs. Took 2 pairs that were a bit too worn to the “clothing bin” recently.
Trouble is that all the compliments I get on them (2 at work yesterday) reinforces the habit!

Also jeans jackets. I have an embarrassing large number of them. But they all do get lots of wear.

Thanks all for confessing some of your fashion obsessions.-I’m seeing lots of love for shoes and handbags, which is so understandable, but others find knitwear, outerwear and jackets hard to pass up. Colour is another big draw, I’m a sucker myself for anything blue.
Jenni NZ - so true, those compliments can be so enabling.
Kookaburra- When an item works so effectively its hard not to seek out plenty more of it.
Bonnie- I agree 2 years is long enough, what discipline, permission to shop for another jacket lol.

.

I am not sure if this fits the bill but my issue is that everything that I buy I want to be able to wear to the office. So if I like something but can’t find way to wear it to office I rarely buy it.

Dark knits. Dark knits don’t mix with a dog.

#1 handbags
#2 jewellery
#3 shoes
#4 scarves
None of the above I would be brave to count.

Jewellery & nail polish - because they're so small but finish an outfit, I have too many. I keep holding onto some of them 'just in case' but then when I go to use them, the varnish has already congealed horribly

I used to buy blazers/ jackets (coming from the UK), but I've *finally* accepted that I now live in a subtropical, humid climate where just cardigans will do

It’s definitely ballet flats for me. Although I mostly wear my 7 year old fav ballet flats, I can’t pass up a new pair of ballet flats. I have several pairs of new ballet flats that sit in the shoe bin most of the time because I like wearing my fav ballet flats.

Footwear! I am also embarrassed by how many pairs of footwear I own and that was after a cull last year! Currently, I have three pairs of winter booties being shipped to me to try on for next year so I'll be "ready" (I think mine are starting to leak). I won't keep all of them, but yes, footwear.

I'm beginning to think I need to add "skirts" to this list, having bought two in the last two weeks, and also donated several that never got much wear! (GULP)

Also, after my recent closet edit, I am beginning to recognize I overbuy (or keep for no real purpose) blazers. I love love love love LOVE blazers (or other jacket toppers). They are among my favourite items ever and have always been signature to my style since I was 20.

The problem? I really, truly, do not wear them any more, except for denim jackets. I don't know why. I think it is lifestyle related. Especially since my move to the coast, and the pandemic. I just don't wear them, even when I am classroom teaching. Which isn't all the time.

So. I need to be super careful about any more jacket additions. Denim jackets are ok. Anything else needs a careful thought and ideally, should come from thrift or consignment.

Suz- haha, I love skirts myself, they are always a temptation, although finding just the right ones can be a challenge.
I have given up on blazers, I own exactly one now, they just feel too formal for my current lifestyle.

Suz—Skirts for me, too. Any length, any style, even if I should not be wearing some of them. Twirling in a skirt deletes fifty years from my state of mind!

And shoes. I’ll quit talking while I am not too much in trouble about shoes, shoes, shoes!

Footwear, jackets (I like a structured 3rd piece), bags and outerwear. Happy to report that I have slowed down the incoming. I am finding less more efficient and gratifying. Great topic.

Fun workout tights and printed pajamas! I need more real clothing for when I'm not exercising or sleeping.
