What's wrong with these outfits??

Well, I know what's wrong with them... it's the boots. For some reason, I really want these to work, but they rarely do except for with skirts and that defeats the purpose of an above the knee boot! In the first pic, I'm thinking about swapping out the rose colored jeans for some regular denim one, but I think that the problem is the boots! I also wish I had a cute topper that would balance out the flowy-ness of the top, but I've yet to find something that looks right on me.
In the second picture I know they don't work because they really just don't go with any element of the entire ensemble. (Hey, we've got to post our horrible fashion attempts too, right!)
I think these don't work for me because they do not, in any way, bookend my hair :0 Maybe I'll have to stick with darker boots.
Any other ideas? Luckily, I rarely wear these outside of my house so I've not been completely embarrassed yet ...

I think #2 could work if you put some kind of caramel color up top to balance them a bit. Maybe some wooden jewelry or a scarf with that color?

I agree with Mo. I had the same issue with my cognac Fryes.

Or counterintuitively, try them with an otherwise black outfit and let them be the standout item.

I think #2 is pretty good too.

I think part of the problem with #1 is that the top under the sheer shirt is too dark. It is almost harsh against the soft sheer blouse. Have you tried it with a soft taupe under?

I have black hair and when I wear lighter footwear, I just use accessories to bookend the shoes. (Hat, statement earrings or necklace.)

Yeah...#2 has possibilities. I think it could work great on you with some very minor tweaks.

I think in #1, in addition to the floaty-ness of the top, one trouble may be that the pinks are sort of cool-ish pinks vs. the warm tone of the boots. Or at least that is what is showing on my monitor.

But #2, well...there I think we are getting somewhere, and if you love the colour of the boots, then you should definitely be able to find the right pieces to balance the look.

I like #2 also, it's headed in the right direction. These are such a gorgeous rich color, I would try to play that up in the outfit colors. Maybe fall colors if you have any such as deep reds, dark plum, mustard, etc.

I like the top in #1 but the pink jeans make it feels spring-y so I agree with your idea to try darker jeans. Even darker than #2 if you have any. That will make the boots pop instead of making the jeans pop out visually (at least that's my theory).

I'd also be curious to see the boots folded down (if they fold down) to play with the proportions a little.

Nakidra, I like you best in #2, but #1 has potential! There are some great suggestions here - bookending with earrings or a necklace (or maybe a bright solid scarf, or burnt orange...?) The boots are fab and I'm sure with some more experimenting you can come up with some superb outfits to show them off!

I like #2 a lot! I think there is just too much pink going on in #1. Those boots seem like they would look better with richer, more autumnal colors.

I can't believe how useful taking pictures is! I've been walking around for years thinking that I look good and I've probably looked like a hot mess!! I thought having a full-length mirror was enough, but really the pics don't lie!

I think #2 would be perfect with darker jeans. #1 could work if the top was tucked into high waisted pink jeans, or if the untucked top was heavier - like a cream coloured knit tunic or long sweater.

I agree with QM about tunic length: have you tried belting them? And play with length: add a very cropped jacket. You have a great figure, take advantage of it!

Ditto what Kellygirl said! Get some rich colors going, and take those boots out of the house for a spin :)! And yes, pictures don't lie--weird how they show so much more than a mirror, isn't it?

Wear a white un-tucked cami under #1 with a light jacket and you are set.

You've already had some great suggestions here, but I want to say that 1) these are not horrible and you'll probably love the boots after some tweaking, and 2) you're really set, because your instincts for solutions are great re: bookending.

You can also try a caramel/tan/mustard jacket/scarf/vest/crossbody bag/hat/statement brooch to bookend the boots.

I was thinking the same as Angie; add a light jacket to #1 with a lighter under-layer, and #2 looks good as-is to me. Do you have any lighter framed specs? That could add a little more balance to #2.
