What's Wrong with the fit of this Jacket?

I'm kind of sad - because I really wanted this to work. Its the Halogen taupe jacket that Mochi bought (it looked so great on her!) - I snagged it up when it went on super sale - but they only had a M and an XS in the store - and one was too big, the other too small - so, I confidently ordered the S. Well, not so fast . . . because here it is - and it's doing something funky in the front about halfway down between the top of the shoulder and the armpit - this weird bunching/wrinkling thing. Perhaps its too small for me at the armpit opening? - even though the sleeves themselves are plenty roomy. Or - perhaps its just this style of jacket? I had jumped on the Theroy Lanai at the NAS - very similar style to this - and it did the same thing and so I returned it.

I had hoped to add more touches of taupe into my wardrobe this fall and thought this jacket would be a great basic "starter" taupe piece - but, I'm afraid not! If you have any insight into what the problem is here - I'd appreciate it! And yes, I look tired in these pics - because I am tired! And yes, I know I have a splotch on my cut-offs - its just water!

Marley, you are beautiful! And I would be so excited to welcome you to Team Taupe!!

Isn't the leather on this jacket amazing? So buttery soft. I touched it and wanted to order it immediately.

In my case, Angie advised against, because she felt I would not do it justice with my body type. Perhaps it is as simple as that. Not all styles "get" us. Angie has also warned that the Lanai jacket might not be the best for me. (I haven't yet had a chance to try it, so don't know how it might or might not work.)

The same thing happens to me! I tried the Theory Lanai a few days ago and it did that armpit/shoulder thing in two sizes, both of which fit fine everywhere else. I'm not sure it's actually a problem, but at that price I want to be sure of a perfect fit. Anxious to see what other people think about the fit on you!

In my case, it would probably be because I am small in the bust, but relatively wide in the shoulders. I wouldn't "fill it out," so to speak.

Suz - I'm sure that I'm much wider in the shoulders than you - and I'm small in the bust but have a wide expanse of chest area between the bottom of my neck and my bustline and out to my armpits - its just weird. I remember that Aida and I discovered that together at our first Shoptoberfest a couple of years ago! It was weird because other women (who wore the same size as us) were trying on jackets that looked great on them - and then we'd try them on and the fit was just off! Our chest area was too big!

Pastry Girl - didn't it kill you to have to pass on that Theory Lanai at that price??? I tried and tried to make that jacket work - and finally accepted the fact that my dream of owning a Theory Lanai jacket was going to have to die!

I'm not sure Marley, do you have a sloping shoulder line or is it straight? I feel as though in the photos I wish to pinch the sholders on the jacket up and out to straighten the wrinkles IYKWIM.

That would be the reason, then.

Angie says that this style of jacket works best for women who have shorter necks, larger busts, and/ or apple shaped bodies.

RoseandJoan - I have a pretty straight shoulder line - I'll see if I can find a picture that demonstrates it - and my shoulders are quite developed (large I think is the word!)
Suz - I have a short neck, but small bust and am more rectangular and inverted triangle than apple - so that might explain some of the problem.

Yup. It's a great color though--but not the right fit for you.

Marley....what about my Danier jacket? It's available still in the size I have. It is not shiny IRL.

This jacket fits best on a body that can fill it out, Marley. Your bust line and midriff aren't "filling it out" so to speak. I hope that makes sense. I had that problem on steroids with this jacket. It's very suited to an apple shape or very curvy hour glass. As soon as I fitted those body types into this leather jacket - it was like magic. Stunningly beautiful.

You are radiant in that shade of blue. Just gorgeous.
