What's the one item...

...that you bought that sparked a style "revolution" for you and that you still love?

For me without a doubt, it's the Docs Marcie boots. It added an urban edge to my style and kicked me (pardon the pun) into my love of pairing dresses with boots and pairing urban with vintage. They made me less fearful of trying new things and make me feel powerful. I now have three pairs of Docs and fully plan to add more to my family.

Skinnies! I never thought I could get away with them. Now they are a staple in my wardrobe.

Mid-length skirts. I found I could pair them with pretty much any top and look well-dressed.

Y'know, I've thought and thought, and mine is probably the Doc Marcies, too. They were the first ankle boots I bought and helped me realize how much I need that toughness in my work ensembles. Go, Marcies!

Frye Melissa lace-up boots. My gateway entry into the world of UWP! I love pairing super ladylike looks with these tough (but still feminine) boots.

Fun question! I think I would say slouchy trousers. Release from the tyranny of the (usually) too short, ill-fitting dress pant! Comfortable!

I can answer this one without hesitation. It was a pair of black steampunk granny boots with little burgundy-red buttons up the side. I saw them, swooned over them, had dreams about them, and ended up returning to the store to buy them (for more money than I'd ever shelled out before for single item, with the exception of my wedding dress!). Not until I got them home did I realize that I did not have many clothes they could go with, besides skinny jeans. So I started to experiment more with skirt silhouettes, which in turn kicked off an interest in styles of shoe that I'd never worn before, being a mostly jeans-and-boots girl before that. Now I wear skirts about half the time, and have a far more varied wardrobe than before I had children.

It was my first pencil skirt, purchased about a year ago.

It ushered me out of my perpetual tomboy phase once and for all. Prior to purchasing that skirt, I wore jeans and trousers 99% of the time. The other 1% consisted of donning an occasional dress or maxi skirt. I was out and about at the mall and saw a mannequin in a white pencil skirt paired with a ruffly top (so NOT me at the time...or so I thought). I liked the look of the whole outfit, so I said, "What the he!!" and took it into the fitting room to try it on. Instant love! It went home with me, and the rest is history. That skirt sparked the revolution that transformed me into the MCP (modern classic princess) I am today : )

I think my Marcies sparked a similar revelation for me, Shannon. They also reminded me how much I love wedge heels. I had worn them years ago but had not tried to wear them for a long time. I know they aren't as dressy as real heels and can look a bit clunky...but sometimes I like that look. I wearing a wedge makes me feel powerful and in charge, much the way that boots in general make me feel. But a wedge can belong to a shoe or a sandal as well as a boot.

Another big "reminder" was my consigned tweedy jacket. I hadn't been wearing jackets for many years - since the 80s, really . I put one on, and had to struggle to take it off! Jackets are 100% part of my signature style and I am never giving them up again!

Not sure I can boil it down to one item . . . I think moving to looser, draping shirts was a big style shift for me. Maybe my cheapy Old Navy white tee ushered this in?

It would be my motel navy floral tank, it made me realise I had been fighting my love of florals and has led to a style refresher in my wardrobe.

Faded denim.

Saying NO to most of this seasons tops (apart from the odd soft boxy blouse) in lieu of manly button downs.

bright colors. I was doing the neutrals all the way for several years but have always loved cobalt and with the color block trend last year i was just drooling. Angie gave me the courage and once the cobalt skinnies were mine, they were followed by hot pink blazer and so on and so on. Now most outfits are all about the color!

I know I did not buy it, but it has to be my engagement ring. This artifact actually started a style revolution. I stopped biting my nails and reworked my entire wardrobe so I could match this thing of beauty. It is not huge or super expensive, but it took my breath away, just like the man who gave it to me (cheesy, I know).

I love my black calf high heeled boots. They sparked the "shoe style revolution"

I no longer love my INC navy/white dress but I can't stop wearing it because it is so practical. It sparked the "I can wear a dress casually" style revolution.

My Classiques Entier blue wrap top sparked the "wearing nice tops to work" style revolution. Still love it.

My grey Jigsaw blazer sparked the "blazer style revolution".

Most recently my denim jacket has been a staple of my spring style. I wear it on top of any outfit that doesn't involve blue jeans.

My full black skirt. I started wearing skirts and dresses after and feel now comfortable with showing my legs. And I started dressing less casual and more feminine after I bought that skirt. I still love it!

I'd say the Halogen seamed pencil skirt. I'd never owned a pencil skirt before, and now I have that skirt in eight colors and wear one of them at least three times a week. It's the foundation of my Business Bombshell style!

I think I might have to go with the Halogen pencil skirt too. The fun colors are playful (which is important to me) but it's also ladylike and business friend. What's more, it's more comfortable than most pants.

They're a couple years old but my leather leggings. Brought on a cascade of leather garments. I debating now whether to replace them because they're bagging out a bit at the knees.

Knee high boots, a few years ago. I always kind of wanted some but they seemed a bit "fetish" to me, and would have really stuck out in a bad way in the 90s. And they were always too expensive. But when I finally bought a pair on super clearance I loved them, and started wearing them with skirts and dresses all the time. I now have 6 pairs and I'm on the lookout for more colors!
