In college in the 1980s, I had my dad's college letter sweater - a massive, heavy navy blue cardigan with a huge S on it (for U. Mass. Stockbridge). Because I moved approximately 352 times in college, I lost track of it and very much regret not having it now.

Speaking of famous coats, the one I lusted after for years was a voluminous trench - with none of a trench's stiffness - that Kim Basinger wore in 9 1/2 Weeks. Bad movie, brilliant coat.
