What's the most endearing thing your dog does?

I am subject to very long, loud sneezing fits - like 15 huge sneezes in a row. This seems to worry little Bodie, who will come running from wherever he is to lick my face as if I'm injured.

I find that deeply touching. What about your dogs?

Or cats - my late beloved Sarah used to knock on the front door when she wanted to come inside.

Your Bodie is adorable!

I have had dogs and cats all my life, I could write a novel ! One of the fondest memories dates back to when I was in my twenties and I came back from a 3-week study stay abroad. My mother came to pick me at the airport together with my female doggie. She was an adorable little thing, a mixed breed, similar to a Jack Russell. Out of happiness when she saw me she made a big puddle of pee in the middle of the airport hall ...

Awwww, Bodie!

My cat Mickey's favorite sleeping spot is a bin in my closet where I keep my handbags. It's his fortress of solitude. It looks uncomfortable to me, but if you're a true handbag fan like Mickey, that is not a problem.

Also, a confession: when nobody's around, I speak to him in my special cat voice. [Embarrased]

Lilypup snaps her teeth at me to tell me she loves me. She’s unique. She’ll stand there until I look at her, then wag her tail and snap. Lol.

But her most endearing expression is her look of pride when arriving back at home in the car. She feels so special coming back home. Lol.

So cute! We don't have pets, due to allergies, but my friend's dog loves me for some reason, and has a total freakout every time he sees me. Then he will just hang out beside me as long as I'm at their house or walking with them. I love it; I feel so special haha!

We had a cat named Sam who would stand on her back legs and tap DH’s arm with her paw, so he would rub her head. If he stopped petting her, she would repeat the process until he resumed his attentions. She would do this no matter if he was sitting upright in a dinning chair, or reclining on the couch. She only did this with DH.

Xtabay, everyone I know speaks to their pet in a special voice. I talked to my dogs in my doggie voice all the time when people were around.
I don't know where to start. My dogs all did so many endearing things. Our last dog Sophie would sit outside most of the time. This is typical of Samoyeds. She would come up to the door and look through the window to see what we were doing. If we weren't in her eyesight she would bark until she could see us. Her nose print was all over the glass.
It took us months to clean the window to remove her nose prints after she died.

When I come home, Oreo always greets me with a head bump. I always kneel down to pet her and she will put her paws on my knee and put her head against mine. She also bows and barks at me when she wants to play--it's very cute. The most endearing thing is how she will wait for me to go to bed. Even when DH goes up before me, she won't go upstairs without me.

FWIW, the fantastic dog trainer we're working with uses a "special dog voice" with our little guy, and he loves it.

With children, this change in tone and vocabulary is called "motherese".

As my son says, one of our dogs exercises Jedi mind control by staring directly at my husband until he pets her. Then she does the same as Runcarla’s cat and paws him with her foot if he stops petting her. He doesn’t think she’s too bright, but who is the one getting what they want??

My cat, Keesya likes to play hide and seek: she hides between my hanging clothes, on the luggage and starts making special sounds, like "come and find meyeee..". You have to come/be a part of her game and after which she jumps out and starts joyfully running around.
We adopted her almost 10 years ago ( or maybe she adopted us ) and she is our family therapist.
And yes, I talk to her in my cat voice.

Bob Barker (not his real name) runs away with our slippers when we get home. I think he wants us to chase him. He loves to run fast.

JAileen, I like how you protect your dog's identity! ;). He is adorable, and I love his hair style.

I knew you all would understand about the cat voice thing. I use it in secret because I got an eye-roll from a friend over it. She said it was like speaking baby-talk to a child, and I got self-conscious about using it when other people are around (except Mr. Xtabay, who totally gets it). I'm glad to know there are others like me out there! And Mickey loves it, so there you go.

XTB - my adult son rolls his eyes too and says, "I hate that dog voice."

Oh well. When we first got Bodie, Little Mr. April thought we were too strict with him and would say, "You never let him have any fun!" Now that it's clear that Bodie is afraid of him and thus not very friendly, he says, "You never correct him!" First rule of being a parent: you can't win for losing. This is why we need our pets.

Our Little Leia is the sweetest & loves everybody. She likes to snap her teeth and hop up and down to "talk" (with no sound coming out) when she wants some attention or food!

She is a super snuggler, and when she is really tired she will stretch out her front paws and tuck her nose in them as she does a biggggg stretch with her whole body....pretty adorable

OK, Mr. April has requested that I share our (mildly embarrassing) bedtime ritual with little Bodie.

Mr. April takes him out for his final "business walk" and then they go up to the bedroom. I join them about 30 seconds later, upon which Bodie gets deliriously happy like he hasn't seen me in a year. Then both humans lie down on the rug with him and snuggle.

Let the eye-rolling commence...

When I was in high school a stray dog decided to adopt me and moved in in our yard. She was ugliest dog I have ever seen, some mixed bread with large body and disproportionately short legs, but so smart and loyal, and we immediately became inseparable. She would follow me to school every day, and at the end of school day, she would wait for me to walk me home. I don’t know how she knew when school is finishing and hope that she was not there the whole time waiting for me.

When she died I was grieving for months, and never wanted to have another dog because no dog would be able to replace her.

Oh, Anchie. What a story. We had a dog like that when I was tiny - my dad found him roaming the woods while we were on a fishing trip. We brought him home and he used to stand at the end of our driveway nudging my brother and me back to safety if we got too close to the road. He turned out to be so riddled with mange it couldn't be treated.

I was three years old and I still remember the day we took him to the shelter to be put down.

Whenever DH would tell our late dog anything (ie: time to go outside), he'd look at me like "does he mean it?" I'd give him The Voice "GO" - and he'd go.
Now DH is over a foot taller than me, louder than me, and outweighs me by 100ish pounds- but I'm the Alpha!

Love these stories! My girl decides our bedtime....she will sit at my feet and STARE at me till I give in, lol. So many nights it's way earlier than I wanted but I wouldn't trade it for the world

Oh, an she nestles her little chin on my leg or arm and goes 'Uugghhmmm' in her little voice, while gazing up at me, which melts my heart. I had taught my 1st Shar Pei how to 'talk' to me like that, back in 1990 and love it so much!

BS -- our little guy loves an early bedtime too, so that's what he gets. He has trained Mr. April to go to bed at 8:30 and rise around 4:30.
