What's my season? Update

Update to say that I think my coloring is neutral-cool and that I'm more soft than clear. There is a Sunlit Soft Summer color palette (Color Breeze System) that I want to explore, as it's supposedly for Summers who get confused with Springs. I honestly don't know, but many people think I'm a Spring, but I tried that already and know it's too warm. I also have trouble with colors that are too cool. The Sunlit Soft Summer is supposed to be not too light, not too dark, not too cool & not too warm. That sounds like what I need. We shall see!

It may be lighting and the colour of the clothing, but IMO your skin is really lifted and you look the freshest in pic 1. I read books about seasonal colour schemes years ago, Carole Jackson's Colour Me Beautiful, in 1983 and was sure I was a Spring. I still get more compliments in those colours, but have read an updated book which adds concepts like deep or light or clear or soft to the season ideas, and hair changing from brown to grey has changed it too. The Internet has lots of info, and could someone at a department store make-up counter help?
Of course you could pay to have them "done", if you really wanted to, but my reading suggests people are not always happy with the results...

Thanks! I do like Pic 1 the best, but need confirmation. I feel best in colors that are fairly dark, but not overly so, and on the cooler side, but I tend to veer to warmer colors from time to time.

I'd hazard a guess at cool summer. Based onskin tone, hair color (which you say is close to natural) and eyes.

I'm vacillating between Cool Summer and Soft Summer, but don't think my colors should he too grayed (which would rule out Soft Summer). Donna Fujii's High Contrast Summer is a contender, too. (See pic below.) I'm open to everyone's opinion.

Never heard of Donna Fujii! Those colours are similar to your top in pic 1. Beautiful palette! Will it help to think of the colours that you feel best in and get complimented on? The new Colour Me Beautiful book which was done by a US company I think( I've lent it to someone so can't check) did add the concept of Clear which I'm wondering if you demonstrate in pic 1.

BC, not everyone has a season. Less than a year ago two color season specialist together could not even come up with a guess. Go with colors that you feel best wearing. Trying to find your season can be a waste of your time , energy and money.

BC, I'm remembering that this question is one that you've done quite a lot of thinking about. Do you have a sense that there is a better solution out there than the ones you've already found? You always seem to have a really good sense of which colors you enjoy wearing and which look good on you.

For me it was more helpful to think about my best colours. Am I better in warm or cool; deep or light; clear or muted; high contrast or low. I think we all have a best "range" of colours - which is much wider than any palette. I love harmony in clothing so the best thing about "seasons" for me is that all my clothes work together & work on me. Others prefer dissonance.

A great tip is to get a piece of gold craft paper & a silver one & put a hand on each. You should see whether you are warm or cool.

What Joy says is what I had read as well, that the "experts" can't always agree. Probably partly why I've got my thinking on it from books, first time from the library and the second book, which I own, on clearance! I'm tight with my money like that. I have this " shoe currency" regarding beauty spending- the money spent on that could buy another pair of shoes!

Thanks. It's interesting that I'm wearing almost the same makeup in Pic 1 (blush & lippie are slightly cooler) and I look noticeably better. My instinct tells me higher contrast, but not as high as Winter. My hairdresser keeps talking about my soft coloring (she's a Winter for sure). So I'm most likely a Summer but not sure which type. I guess a clearer Summer would be Cool Summer?

Yes the gold/silver test is a good one. It helped me.

I actually think you wear colours that are flattering - you seem to pick ones that work.

Thanks! At least that tells me I'm not missing the mark. I do love my clothing colors, though I am culling the pale colors because they wash me out.

I wear both silver and gold jewelry, but mostly silver.

Carole Jackson wrote her original book in 1980, this one is from 2010. I'm sorry I can't quite tell if the author's consultancy is based in US or UK without having my actual book here and it is out on loan. The reviews are a bit mixed but I quite liked the concept of adding "clear" or "soft". So you look in pic 1 to have a clear kind of look, but then you say your hairdresser talks about your soft colouring! Caro and Sally are right about the gold and silver- I was always better in gold, but with the grey pixie now I look better in silver jewellery and grey or silvery clothing than I ever did when in my 20s when I read the first book, because the hair has changed it. I still think gold lifts my face more but it is nice to now be able to ring the changes.
Caro's advice is really good. You can work most of it out yourself by doing what she says.

Thanks. I ordered a used copy of the book for very cheap. I think it will interest me, as it appears to be updated. If I can get the clear vs. soft thing figured out, it will help immensely. Others have said I look clear, so maybe it's relative. My hair dresser may just think of me as soft compared to her, which I am, but that doesn't necessarily put me in the Soft Summer category. Angie likes me in brighter colors. I'll have to sort this all out.

You may also find that your best colors shift when you get a tan. I know I get more golden. Also, the sunlight in different parts of the world and country may shift what looks best.

Yes, that's true. I haven't tanned in decades, but get dark when I do.

I hope that the new palette you're going to check out may help some more. It is nice to get compliments on your colours, works for me, happens quite often so I know I'm on the right track, but still choose to wear others at times if I like the clothes for other reasons. Eg black, not my best, but so versatile.

I like 7 best! I think you look simply radiant in that photo. Working from that and your gorgeous eyes, I think the pinks, blues, purples of Summer are probably good. I didn't read all the other comments so I will let you do the evaluating. Have fun!

Keep in mind that my hair color in that pic is not the way it is in IRL. For some reason, it came out lighter than it actually is. I do love the colors in that dress, though!

I feel both relieved and vindicated. The Sunlit Summer color palette from The Color Breeze System (Lora Alexander) appears to be my season. There are 60 colors in the fan, including most of the colors I wear.

Exactly. I kept wondering why none of the palettes I saw matched up with what I've come up with. Now I understand why they needed to have more soft seasons.

BC, the sunlit soft summer sounds suspiciously like the Light summer palette from my color system. Light, Soft, and cool. My skin is also neutral to cool, my eyes are green, they can look light teal or grey depending on the light and what I wear. If my hair is a warm color my eyes can look olive green. My colors were very hard to pinpoint, and I ran through the color spectrum from Spring, autumn and summer. I passed well in all the colors because of my neutral skin and my eyes shift, but there were always a large group of colors in each of the previous palettes that didn't work for me. Mostly the very warmest of the colors. My natural hair color, which is hard to recall because I've used color for many years and now I'm grey, but I believe it's similar to yours. I trust the person who did my colors the last time. She really knew what she was doing, and she could explain why the other palettes didn't work for me but why people might have picked them. Every color in my palette works well for me. The best way for me to tell if a color is good is if it makes my eyes sparkle and change to a brighter prettier color especially if it picks up one of the teals, light blues or greys in my eyes. The other thing that happens is my skin looks brighter and clearer. I have rosacea, so I get a lot of pink and red, and my colors look great on me even without makeup. The red is minimized. However, they don't make me look washed out.

Enjoy your new palette. I hope you have found the pot of gold at the end of the color rainbow!

The Sunlit Soft Summer color palette is for people who often get confused with Spring and can't wear colors that are too light, too dark, too warm or too cool. In this system, its sister seasons are Dusty Soft Spring and Dusty Soft Autumn. There are no pale colors in the fan. I can't say any more because the information I was sent is proprietary. I'm only disclosing what has already been posted online.

I see! It is different. I think my eyes are lighter than yours, at least from what I can tell in pictures. In any case, I hope you are happy with your new palette and that it suits your needs.

Thanks. I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw the colors in the fan. This set of colors is what I need - no question - and there are some in there that I like but have never tried. It's a predominantly cool color palette. Mention is made of people who have cool undertones but warm overtones (that's me) and a touch of warmth in their hair and eyes (that's also me).

Yes, my eyes are darker I think, and they look different depending on what I wear.
