Whats my body shape?

I'm generally very confused about what my body shape is. I looked it up because I always have a lot of trouble finding dresses, and I wanted to see if there was any particular body shape that looked good in specific dresses. I came across this website and hopefully someone can clear the air for me with all the confusion. I always thought I was an inverted triangle, but I have a clearly defined waist and my bust and hip measurements are about the same. Its really confusing. Also if you girls can help me find out what dresses compliment my body, it would really help! Thanks

Weight: 121 lbs
Bust: 34 in
Waist: 25 in
Hips: 35.5 in
Thighs: 19 in

Shoulders from blade to blade: 16 in
Hips from hip to hip: 13.5 in

My body kinda looks like Jennifer Lawrence's except I'm shorter.

Well I see a slim hourglass with nice square shoulders. I don't really see IT just a nice strong shoulder line, like a model's. You are very well proportioned with slim legs too, lucky you.

Hi Chrissie… and welcome! You have a lovely figure which looks to me, from your pics, to be "hourglass". But, as I am no expert on this subject, I will defer to our other more seasoned forum members.

It's hard to determine your body types from these photos. It's best if you get into a pair of leggings and cami - and make sure that the camera angle isn't distorted. Take the photos from eye height.

Great job trying to post though. Hope to see new pics soon.

Hello! I would guess that you are hourglass too, possibly with IT tendencies. You may be the figure 8 version of hourglass, as described here (on Imogen Lamport's Inside Out Style blog, which is a great resource):

I couldn't tell if you had the "shelf hip" of the figure 8. The first pic (the one with the cami) appeared to show such a hip, but it might just have been the waistband of the pants showing beneath the shirt. The second pic didn't really seem to show the hip, in which case you would just be a regular hourglass. Imogen calls the regular hourglass an X shape:

But if you can post another set of photos with leggings and a cami, that would be helpful. :^)

I see an hourglass with a bit of a strong shoulder line. ITs usually don't have much of a defined waist, but yours is nicely defined.

I would say you are quite Short waisted, just like I am. The short waist kind of makes it difficult to find the right type of waist defining tops.

Yeah, I see hourglass too! I'm an IT, so my eye is tuned to seeing one where there is one. However, if you have IT tendencies, they are very faint. You have a lovely curvy figure, which ITs rarely have. Hourglass!

Wow I'm surprised that so many people think I'm an hourglass! Thanks for helping me out! And Gigi, when I try on dresses, the waistline is always either too high or too low. That's normally the main problem. Also trying to find styles other than wrap dresses (those are the only kind that I have in my closet!) I guess like Suhasi said, I have a short waist and long legs. This could maybe be the problem with the waistlines. But anyway thanks everyone for helping me out!

We are built similarly, I think.

One thing to try: petite dresses generally have higher waists than regular-sized dresses, which can make a big difference. (I find in regular dresses the widest part of the hip sits below my butt, and the narrow waist sits where I am quite wide, which is not a happy look.)

Chrissie, I agree with adorkable's suggestion to try petite sizing, if you haven't already. I am 5'2" and short waisted, a figure 8 variety of hourglass, and I have to buy petites' for tops and dresses 95% of the time. You have a larger bust than I do, and a stronger shoulder line, which can help fill out some of that extra space in a misses' top or dress, so you can probably get away with misses' stuff more often than I. But I would definitely try out petites' clothing at different stores to see if you can find a store that makes things in your proportions. Not everyone who makes petites' clothing puts the waist at the same spot, for example. Each clothing manufacturer has their own petite "formula," so to speak.

Yes -- the trouble is just that you are petite and maybe short waisted. So try petite dresses and jackets. Possibly shirts as well.

Yes, I would agree that you're hourglass. I read the new article on how to emphasize the long legs and waist for the hourglass...good tips to relly emphasize the tiny waist and long legs :).

Yes, well-made petites clothing is not just shorter in the length, but is also cut to the proportions of actual petite people. Meaning the pants rise is lower, sleeve holes are smaller in dresses, etc. I can see how it's tough if you have very long legs for your height, and you have to deal with the high rise of regular length pants. Some stores have petite pants that run long, that might be the way to go.
