Have you heard of Camilla caftans? They're quite popular here in Oz, and we have Camilla stores in most malls.

These could be fun to have as a wild card in your wardrobe. Why not enjoy one item as a fashion piece for the season to be enjoyed and discarded when you want. I find Zara great for buying items like this inexpensively.

There's no reason why you can't be a tropical warrior princess.

In nature the bright and beautiful creatures are often the most dangerous, colour can be fierce to!

I wear pants with prints like these when I'm home at night.

Gotta say, love love love #1.

Oh if I wasn't 5'1" and hippy, I'd wear that first pair of pants everywhere. I'm not as crazy about the second pair, and the Golden Girls ruined caftans for me (but Judi Dench might be redeeming them...). I think you'd look great in the pants!

I love crazy pants! I still have some in my basement archive and a pair I wear in summer, I added a picture. This pair is from at least 18 years ago. I weighed a bit more when I bought these but I loved them so much that when I lost some weight I had them altered. I just realized that I have the wardrobe to join Mrs. Howell on a cruise. Perhaps that could be part of my summer style moniker.

Yay crazy-pants cruise! I know Diana will be there!

Una- You had me chuckling out loud. Every spring, I find a part of myself drawn to florals and colors I deem "luscious" or even "delicious". (It's my version of the magpie gene.) Those words usually wake me up enough that I can start thinking deliberately. I do wear a few florals and love them, and even occasionally sport tasty colors, yet they are not the foundation of my neutral, solid leaning wardrobe. I have learned that if I visualize myself walking out of the house in some items, I can spare myself a closet orphan. But who wants to be bored? Have your fun, but only buy if you will be happy to put it on.

I think we all have a little Mrs. Roper/Lovey Howell in us. Not a fan of crazypants for myself, but those caftans look pretty retro and comfortable to me. I could go for one in a natural fiber, without bling, I think. Now, someone mix me a dirty martini!

Isn't it also possible that your own dramatic figure and coloring are calling you to explore more drama? You mentioned that you had been wearing loose kurtas during your recovery; they probably feel and look wonderful on you, so why not take one step further and try those colorful millefleurs pants? Your slim hips would showcase them perfectly.

Ok first off what is the first pair? I totally want to look into those myself! Both seem like pants you'd be able to toughen up for your usual style. I mean, even UWPs need to enjoy summer right? The caftan will swamp petite you, unless it comes in petite sizes. LOVE the shorts and think, at the very least, those are worth a try.

I have to ask, what are UWP's?

I love the shorts! Would totally wear them! The rest, maybe notsomuch.

Colette, UWP is Urban Warrior Princess!

Perhaps you're in the QVC phase of recovery? I've heard it's a thing.

Seriously, I think there is room for a bit of bling and fiesta in everyone's closet --- I think a pair of crazy pants or the shorts might be a lot of fun.

And perhaps you're craving a bold vacation?

These pants remind me of a pair I bought in the late 60s. Not sure why I bought them except that I was a bit discombobulated.

Well, maybe everyone should have one pair of these. I say wait! hold off couple of weeks.

I also bleached my hair blonde. Did I post those photos? Not the best thing I ever did.

On the other hand--maybe it is the right time to break out and go crazy.

You are cracking me up! I think all but the caftan are doable for you, given that your great style eye would come into play when you decide what to wear with them. And you could probably pull off the caftan, too. I'm drawn to some Alberto Makali pieces, and then when I take a longer look at them, I realize they are almost, but not quite, something I want to wear. Maybe that's happening a little bit with you, too. After a day, which of the items still make you really want to press "buy"?

Sharan, very astute! Patterns are so hard... I'm often attracted to things that remind me of India - Holi, saris, ethnic prints. And there are so many factors that come into play. Here it's florals,
but size, detail, color saturation, etc. all play a part... I need to figure out just what it is.

The BR shorts arrived and they are a win, I think. Will post them, of course.

Thanks all - I look forward to our three hour tour, Mrs. Howell, Mrs. Roper and all!

I'm on my way to full blow er'thang. Crazy pattern and I don't mind it one bit

Una, I LOVE those prints, and you know we share similar tastes. I particularly like them in the pants because it is more unexpected than a dress or top. With your build and proportions, they would look great! It might be too much print for a larger, taller person or one like me who carries her weight in her legs.
