BIG HUGS! You are not going crazy, I promise!
The three things that I've often observed in women I know, from ages 25-55, who are forgetful and distracted:
1. They always have kids they are chasing around after.
2. They are chronically sleep-deprived
3. They are trying to balance too many big things all at once : job, family, keeping house - without any real assistance from other family members. And they are trying to balance too many little things all at once: dinner, laundry, feed everyone, get the kid in the bath, call back so-and-so on the phone... all at the same time.
Lack of sleep was always the biggest culprit.
The other girls are right, you should go see a doctor, in case there is a vitamin deficiency.
But also, maybe you should write out a blow-by-blow description of your average day. I bet you are doing way more things than you realize. Ask for help. Even a small child can make their own bed, lay out their clothes the night before and dress in the morning, and do small things that help you (my sister and I did), and older kids can take on some bigger tasks like emptying the dishwasher, or gathering all the laundry together for you to wash.
Also, Flylady.net is a great tool for keeping on top of everyday life.
