What you wear when seeing your SO's ex

Do you pay special attention to what you're wearing when you know you'll be seeing an ex of your significant other?

Or have you run into them unexpectedly, and been happy you looked fab (or annoyed at the timing if you didn't)?

Personally, I'm more concerned about running into bf's colleague's wife, because she always looks effortlessly fantastic. But bf's ex (from years ago) and her wife are coming over in a few hours for a Homeland marathon, and I find myself wondering how to put together a lounge outfit that's casual-company appropriate.

Yes. I live 3 hrs from my ex and every time I visit (my folks are there) I glam it right up.

Oncei was running to the grocery store for my parents and ran to put on makeup. When my dad rolled his eyes, my mother responded 'Angela is worried she'll run into John Smith'. And shewas right

I see Mr. Suz's ex all the time and I never worry about what to wear. Half the time I'm in my PJs or gear when she stops by.

Now, if I thought that I might run into my ex, that would be different. Then, like A, I'd want to be looking as good as possible!

But I think I've just explained the difference. One of these people is in my daily life. Like it or lump it, she's the mother of Mr. Suz's older children and part of the family.

The other person is someone I have not seen for 20 years. We did not have children and he did not want to stay in touch after we parted ways. So I'd be much more concerned with how I looked if I knew we were going to run into each other.

my ex, depends on the ex.

ps...how you feel about having your so and so's ex having a relationship close enough to hang together watching a homeland marathon is probably a more important guide to how to dress.

Wait, I'm having difficulty deciphering. So BF's ex, and the wife of BF's colleague are both coming over? Or BF's ex and HER current wife are coming over?

Florence, just bf's ex and her wife are here. No actual worries about how I look; they're both very casual and I enjoy their company.

The colleague and his wife live in my neighborhood. Sometimes when I'm headed out for errands, I spruce up a bit in case I run into her. No history there, she just looks good all the time.

My SO's ex is one of my best friends, so no worries about what I'm worrying. But, like Suz - if I were ever to run into my own ex, I would certainly hope that I was having a good "outfit day!"

Ahh, I see. Isn't that the worst when no matter how hard you try, there are those women who seem to just effortlessly breeze in and make you feel inadequate? I know a few in particular who somehow look more elegant in pajamas than I do on any given work day. Ah well, I guess that's why I'm here.

I have never quit kicking myself for the time I ran into my ex at the supermarket in the middle of the night, all ratty and snotty and looking like absolute crud because I had just dragged myself out of bed to come buy more cold medicine. To this day, I can be on death's doorstep, and I still apply makeup to go out. So yeah, if I actually knew I'd be seeing an ex of mine, I'd be dressed to the nines, wearing a corset! Ha ha ha.
