So, we got an adorable Maine Coon kitten who appears to be growing into a lynx. I kid you not, this 5 month old kitten is bigger than my 7 month old daughter!

Anyway, he appears to be part magpie. He steals shiny things and hides them. I have managed to find most of his nests, but he stole my beloved Movodo watch a month ago and I still can't find it. DH has helped me scour the house, but we just can't find it and we both know it was on the nightstand when I went to bed.

Whatever some think about watches, I wear mine daily and use them as timepieces (I have a Burberry in silver and the Movodo in gold). I keep track of time in meetings without pulling out my phone, and when I go to DD2s daycare to nurse her, the room they have me in doesn't have a clock. The watch lets me keep track of nursing time without messing around with carrying a phone, the baby, and boppy into a little room.

So, would you:

1. Repurchase the current Movodo watch as I loved it so

2. Buy a less expensive replacement and hope the Movodo shows up.

3. Wait for NAS and see what Nordies has to offer then

4. Start looking for a different replacement. Maybe consider one of those watches that also tracks steps or something.

5. Something else altogether.

It is a good thing that kitten is cute. . .

I notice that cat surgery is not an option.

Where could the cat have hidden it????!! Aaargh.

I'd get an inexpensive replacement, see if the watch shows up, and wait for NAS to see what options are available then. That buys you a month or so, anyway.

What a crazy kitten!
I just commented to my son today how much I love my Movado watch! It would drive me batty not being able to locate the one a cat has hidden. Not sure what to recommend since you have checked everywhere multiple times. I, for myself, would definitely buy another Movado, maybe a different model, just in case it does turn up at some point. See if you can get a good deal on Ebay?

Oh no! I used to have cat who would climb the Christmas tree every year and manage to find one specific Grinch ornament, wherever we hid him. The Grinch was deposited in the toilet nearly daily every season. It became a source of endless entertainment. Not so much with a nice watch, though!

You will find it at some point, so I wouldn't buy something that would duplicate the Movado. I'd probably go cheaper just in case. As far as finding it, do you know anyone with a metal detector? Or a nanny cam to discover his hiding spots? Yikes. No ideas from there.

Does you kitty go outside? Do you have access to a metal detector (I don't know if you could rent one or if the watch is worth it)? If you could comb your house and yard it may be able to sense if it has fallen into something. I would find this so frustrating. I would likely repurchase and chalk it up as a lesson learned.

I'd probably go for a second, but different, movado. The first one may turn up.

Full disclosure: I own two movados. They look almost identical except one is ink blue and the other is black. I wear both. In my defense the second one is an "upgrade" and was gifted to me after I'd had the first one for over 15 years.

Since you've done a thorough search, I'd consider the Movado ca(t)put. That reduces your choices to (1) replace with another Movado or (2) start the search for a different watch. As far as timing (oops, another bad pun!), how long are you willing to go with just a silver watch?

My choice would be to replace the Movado now because it is a wardrobe essential for you. If you find another watch in the future that you adore--great, you get to add a third watch to your collection, but at that point you won't be buying it under pressure. And, in the off chance your original watch resurfaces, you can always gift it to someone else if you don't want to keep both Movados. Chances are they won't be exactly the same, anyway.

To my mind, it always makes more sense to spend my money on what I really want--and it usually ends up being costing me less in the long run.

I would find something else to love. Then when the Movado is found you will have three wonderful watches you love.

Carter, that Grinch story is unbelievably hilarious. Aside from needing to fish it out of the toilet, of course!

As for Thistle's watch question - I'd say get a new one that's different, and then enjoy having more options when/if you find it. But if you are really attached to the one you had, an exact duplicate is totally justifiable!

How weird , how funny!
I absolutely depend in my watch.
I'm stumped for instant advice.
It would burn me up to buy a dupe and find it the next day or week. Though that seems unlikely.
I'd take a step back and see, with Movado out of the way for now, has any other style ( or color) been tickling your fancy but you would not have thought you should indulgen in a third watch?
Or , what if you had run over it with the car, so, no chance of its reappearing-- would you for sure want the same watch?

It sounds like you need a cat-whisperer. I was going to say get an inexpensive watch, but it may just remind you of your loss. Get a watch you love, either a duplicate or something different. Anything else is probably a waste of money. ( I have friends who swear by St. Anthony for finding lost items)

I would replace the Movado, but with a slightly different style in case the original ever shows up. And then I would recommend a locking jewelry box!

Oh, and I cannot be the only one who would love to see a picture of the guilty party here! He has to be high on the adorability meter to get away with his tricks!

Of course buying a new watch practically guarantees that the missing Movado will reappear.

I think they figure out what we love and go for it. My cat eats paper. Only the important kind, like drafts of my writing. Or cheques.

Although if my theory is true, I don't know where that leaves Carter.

I am with Greyscale. Get a different watch that you love for now, and in the meantime, let's hope the little thief decides to bring the sparkly object back.

I have no suggestions but I can empathize. Our kittens are adorable but they have gotten bold and are into everything!

Una, your second picture is the cutest. thing. ever. They are so adorable and look like twins (maybe they are twins?).

And I must see this Maine Coon Cat! I hear they are gorgeous cats, but I don't know if I've ever seen one IRL.

Oh no, Thistle! I'd go for option 2 -- buy a cheap, fun fashion watch and wait for the Movado to turn up. Unless Kitty goes outside, there's a good chance it will. One of my cats (now 10) went through a horrible magpie phase as a youngster, but grew out of it. Since she's an indoor only cat, we eventually found all her lairs. She also seemed to have phases of repentance when she'd bring things back to us -- sometimes months after the crime. Actually, now I think of it, she appears to have some Maine Coon in her.

Carter, your Christmas Grinch story is among the funniest I've heard.

Mine are at least part Maine Coon - they were rescues but have all the right signs and behaviors. They carry things in their mouths like dogs. They are 11 week old litter mates!

I'd buy the exact same Movado again. I'm very particular when it comes to watches. I wear one style and only one.

You will find the missing Movado as soon as you buy a new one. I'd go for option #2 or #3. I would also try to cat-proof my home.

Did you look under all the rugs? Under the sofa cushions? On the floor of all the closets? On top of the kitchen cabinets and the refrigerator? Inside the floor-level kitchen cabinets? In the soil around your house plants? In your shoes and in your husband's shoes? Under the radiator? Behind all the furniture? In the garage? etc.

Feathermore, the love of my life, hid my jewelry, my keys and my contact lenses in all the places mentioned above. Good luck!

I would buy a watch you love. Your watch could turn up but it might take months. A watch is an integral part of your style and something you use constantly. Find something you live even if it is a duplicate.

If you can find a different Movado that you truly love and won't make you pine for the original, buy that. If not, duplicate the lost one. I agree with Gaylene that it might be cheaper to do that than to buy around what you really want. Like when you want a chocolate truffle, and instead you end up eating Fritos, a cheeseburger, and several pieces of buttered toast.

Thistle, listen to what your heart says. That's the best advice I can offer.

I can only tell you what I'd do if it were me, which may not work for you because we're different people. I would replace what was lost with the same. A substitute would be mere placeholder. Mind you, I'm the kind of person who would never have two different watches. To me, a watch is like a wedding ring: I only need one, and it will be my favourite design. I can't see the point of wearing a second-best design. (I also have very little jewelry, because I like to wear my favourite pieces every day).

If, however, you can't stand the idea of having two identical watches if the original should be found, then by all means buy a different one. This is a totally personal choice!

If it were me, I would buy exactly what I want. Life is short, the watch is an essential item for you, you will enjoy wearing it every day.

I'd buy another watch, maybe Movado, maybe something else. Then again, I like watches.
