What top should go with this outfit?

I was thinking of perhaps a white half jacket? Or perhaps a black leather jacket?

It is a spring gala and I really love this red dress. I am not sure what to complete this outfit with.

If you are going with black tights like in the picture, then go with a black leather jacket. If you go barelegged than a white jacket could work.

If is spring? don't know about black leather, but the black thights with red shoes look a little off. Gives it a Minnie Mouse look. Go with nude hose, show those legs off. Also, it depends if you want the dress to br edgy or feminine. Hot pink would look very edgy.

White or black jackets would both look good. Also like Linder's suggestion of nude hosiery/footwear and a pink jacket for a little color clash.

Yes, another vote for springy nude hose and footwear (including maybe evening sandals in metallics). As for toppers: Boleros and cropped sweaters will accentute your wasteline and the lengthening effect of the sheath/slip dress. Matchy reds or companion colors (pink or orange, depending on what flatters you) would look lovely. Texture and embellishments can add interest. But if you go leather, I choose white over black. Lovely look!

...and if metallic on the feet, you can repeat that in thread or color on the topper...

For Spring, I'd go with white and wear nude pantyhose. A light denim blue would catch some interest, too.
