What to wear under the EF asymmetric sweater? eta over dress

I have decided to keep this EF asymmetric sweater. I really like the weight and feel of the sweater along with asymmetric seams.
Question to what to wear underneath.

PIC 1-2 is the silk sleeveless shell part of NAS also. I like the pattern of the shirt and it shows just a little at the neckline too. Just wondering how much I will wear this on its own since it is pricey.

PIC 3-4 is a black jeresy EF shirt I have. I think it is all right. I think I like the silk shell better.

Which is better. Can I get away with the black jersey shirt and save some money and not get the silk shell? Thanks in advance for any inupt

It's hard to tell the length of the black top from the picture, but I think you can get away with it. Both look good. I wouldn't purchase the silk shell if you are only going to use it under the sweater, although I like the length of the shell.

I hope Angie will chime in and I want to thank you for this post because Angie had suggested the sweater to me, but I did not realize the slit came up so high and now am worried I would struggle to style it because I don't want to spring for the silk shell.

What I would probably do myself is wear a cami underneath, either one that simply blended with the sweater, or a contrasting one, one one that matched my pants for a column of one neutral under another neutral.

I might also try it with one of my silk blouses/ shirts -- sleeved ones, I mean. The silk will collapse nicely under the sleeves of the pullover and wouldn't feel "bunchy."

Stays fit- thanks for the feedback. The black shirt blends in with the dark wash jeans maki g it hard to see in the picture. I do like the shell peaking underneath the sweater but you are right that is not worth the price.

Suz- good point about the Camis and silk shirts. I will have to play around with it.

Camisole, tank, shirt or blouse. Good over a dress too.

Do you need a size up, Pree? If you were my client, we would be trying a larger size for comparison.

Thanks Angie! I will be sure to try it over a dress also as I didn't think about that.

I will see if I can get to a store to try on a bigger size for comparison. Sometimes I feel like that arm holes are too large in a bigger size. A bigger size will add more fluidity in the front thought. Thanks for the suggestion.

I wouldn't get the shell. I do like seeing the patterned silk peeking out the side, but I think a better top would be shorter than the sweater. Maybe you can find another shell that's shorter (and less expensive), but the black top is fine.

On Angie's question about size - I have so much trouble figuring out how oversized is the right oversized! Especially with EF and Vince clothing that's cut to be really loose. Sometimes I'm surprised to find that sizing up gives more of the look I want.

I love this sweater - and am so tempted by it. I'd wear it with a fitted neutral tank/cami just for coverage at that higher waist side. I see a piece like this as very clean and architectural , and I wouldn't want to add in layers and patterns . That's just me tho

Try a larger size in a petite maybe, Pree? And regular. This top is ALL about architectural drape. You lose that going too small. The model is quite a good gauge on how the pullover should hang.

GREAT over a dress.

Oh I like it with the silk shell because it comes down a bit lower.
Do you think you would ever wear it alone?
Maybe you could find something similar for less.

Greyscale- I do too like the shell and will look for an alternative. To your point about size-I want the right oversize and don't want to look frumpy or child like.

Lisa P- I did try it with a cami also and I do like that look. I have many ways I can wear this sweater.

Angie- Thanks for the clarification regarding drape. I will be trying this in a larger size watching the drape more.

Smittie- I also really like the shell and I did what you suggested and tried it alone and created many different outfits with it so it may makes sense to keep it.

It's such a cool sweater. I especially like it over the dress, but it looks good over your black top as well, and the print tank. I agree with all the suggestions above, and one I would really be intrigued to try is a shirt-tail hem hanging out so it's visible at the side.
I'm of two minds on the matching tank.
1. It gives you an instant, easy way to wear the sweater. No fuss, no decision, so it's a ready-made fast fall-back option. I've done that with Eileen Fisher sweaters before, twice, but in each of my cases, I bought the matching scarf to go with the sweater. I was so glad I did, because it made the sweaters easier to wear and so I reached for them more often.
2. (on the other hand) Why buy a tank that you don't especially want to wear, except with the sweater? If you have some ready-made go-to combinations for the sweater, as you're trying out here, then the tank is superfluous.

To me, the black shell looks just fine with the sweater. It also looks fab with the dress. You may find other tops to wear under it in your closet or stalk the EF one for a better price eventually.

Firecracker- What a great idea about the shirt tail hem. I only have a long sleeve though and I think the sleeves may scrunch up underneath the sweater.
I think you are absolutely correct that I will reach for the sweater more with the shell to go under it. I am finding ways to wear the tank, but I would not have bought it if it weren't for the sweater.

I like the tank with the Kut jacket and with the long cardigan. I'm less fond of it with the shorter embellished cardigan. The styles seem to fight a bit, and I think if you're going more structured with the cardi (or a jacket), a more cropped style would create better proportions, showing more of the long tank.
I like the pullover with the gray tank.
You have some fun options here. I think the tank is quite nice and special on its own, with the unusual herringbone print. It could be a good pattern to mix with other patterns, if you're into that. It could look really nice with a pair of tweed pants, and plain jacket. And it's on sale now, so why not get it? You could get some wear out of it now, before it goes back on sale again.

Thanks for the feedback Firecracker. I agree that tank looks better with the longer topper options. I am starting to see potential for the tank and as you said I can get some use out of it immediately.
I liked your suggestion pairing the tank with tweed pant. I will have to play around with some patterns.
