What to wear to Orientation? - YouLookFab Forum

My orientation is tomorrow and the day after. Outside will be in the 90s, but to everyone's chagrin, we will also have to go inside with the freezing AC! I mostly need help with the outfit for the second day. I will be running around campus, but later in the day I will meet with my academic adviser to talk about registering for classes. I want to make a good impression.

1- Day One, ready for random dance parties.
2- Would this be appropriate to wear to a meeting with my adviser? If so, I'll wear this all day and be happy as a clam. (although the shorts are pretty short. I've put chino shorts on my wishlist since putting this outfit together.)
3- If not, I could wear this all day...
4- and then change into the skirt for my appointment.

Also, if you have any advice for orientation or college in general, I would love to hear it! I'm incredibly nervous but also very excited

Forgive the no makeup and hair all a mess! I'll probably put it up in a braid or a bun.

Congrats on your new adventure, Erica! I have spent my entire adult life at universities - as a student, instructor, advisor, student services director (including planning and running orientation programs) and now administrator. I think any of the outfits would be appropriate for orientation because most students are extremely casual for orientation, and you look a bit more pulled together than most. I'm glad you're thinking of getting longer shorts, because you look cute in those shorts, but I think bermuda-style shorts might look even better on you. See Angie's blog post on wearing them stylishly. I love your bag, BTW!

I love the idea of switching to the skirt for meeting your advisor. The skirt outfit looks more polished but not too stuffy for your age and the situation. The more polished look will make it easier for your advisor to envision you as a future leader or professional in your field of choice. In my experience, those early impressions count in the quality of advising that you get, and in the number of opportunities that are offered to you.

How exciting! Your advisors won't expect you to dress up. The shorts outfits are fine for orientation and your meeting. Believe me, we see it all. Just be neat, presentable, polite and engaged. Don't text during your appointment.

You've gotten the inside track from the previous two ladies, but may I just add that I really love the way you look in that skirt! And even if advisers do see it all, some of them are more influenced by the way you dress than others (my husband being one), so it never hurts to try to create a good impression. Which is another way of saying, I vote you change into the skirt. You can only win.

You will always make a better impression if you're well dressed, and the skirt does the trick. I've been in university circles for my entire adult life, and know how important this is. Good luck!

When my son went to orientation they gave out faculty t's that the students were required to wear. Love each of your outfits but I think the skirt is overkill. I might give a pass to the runners in the first pic though as you will be meeting your advisor, all the rest of the shoes are adorable. Your advisor is a TA right? They wouldn't care a hoot about fashion.

I opt for #3-4! It is better to be a little over-dressed than under-dressed.
