What to wear to a club/party

I have been invited to a party at a fancy club this weekend, and I am very excited about it! It's my husband's friend's pre-engagement party

I want to be well dressed but not over-the-top. While looking through my closet, i realised I don't have anything club-worthy. Fancy parties such as these are very rare in my life (once or twice a year at the most).

Any advice on what to wear will be appreciated! I don't mind buying new stuff but I need my clothes/accessories to be versatile. There will be dancing, and I want my outfit to be comfy enough to shake a leg

Here's a suggestion: how about wearing (skinny) jeans/pants with a fun top, heels, cool earrings. It's casual but you can definitely dress it up and still be comfortable and not over the top.

I think its like a nightclub? or a discotheque? I havn't been to this particular one before, but I know it has a dance floor ( and a bar )
My experience with "clubbing" is very less, all I can think of is wearing something sparkly, so it would look nice under the lights.

Angie: Yes that would work...Perhaps an little black dress? Or would it look too dull under the lights? I have a black jersey dress.

And what sort of shoes? I have gold strappy sandals and nude-for-me strappy platforms. But they are "sitting shoes", not conducive to dancing. Would flats be okay for a nightclub?

Any suggestions about accessories? Most of my stuff is too subdued (like office wear jewellery)

I was thinking jeans and a dressy top (as dresses are not my thing) but a dress would be perfect too.

Re the flats, I think it depends on the combination with the dress.

Can we see the black dress and shoes that you have?

I am leaning towards jeans/skinny pants too, mainly because I realised I should be a little subtle. I mean, its not exactly MY party!
I will put up a picture of the dress(es) and shoes nevertheless.

Thanks everyone, for chiming in!
I went for a pants outfit rather than a dress, and ended up wearing a kelly green silk blouse, with black skinny pants. I was going to wear a bright neon yellow belt, but my husband thought it looked "a bit off" so I switched it for a braided leather belt. I got to wear my gold strappy sandals, and teamed it with a multi-chain gold necklace. i also wore a small gold bangle with diamonds(which you can barely see in the photo).

I think the belt didn't work, but I enjoyed the rest of the outfit! I bought the green silk blouse on a whim, and then the gold necklace because..well, green and gold go so well together, yes?

i wish i could have got a better photo, this was clicked really late at night.
