Thanks everyone! We will be looking at schools in & around Boston and DC, as well as some in-between (like in NYC & B’more). After reading your comments, my original list doesn’t sound so bad after all. What do you see that should be changed? I’ve very unsystematically added pix & finds that include most of these items. Is this roughly the way people there interpret these temps? White jeans show up in several photos, but are not on the list. I might add pinstriped G-stars (last pic).

Laurie, thanks! I’ve been looking forward to this for literally years. I hope you’re right about the weather all along the route.
Nancy W, thanks for the guidance. Part of his “issue” buying clothes now is that he hasn’t decided what he wants to support with his purchase dollar. You mentioned one of the schools he’s looking at in that area. We might try the second hand shops there, and then hit a chain store that has “ethical” lines.
JennaDubs, thank you. Good thing I like layering!
Shiny, that gorgeous apartment you showed us a while ago is in Boston? Cool! Giving me a whole list is much appreciated. I will have the old rain jacket with me, so I can compare and contrast with the pile waiting for me at my parents, but that’s another post.
