What to wear??

I’m going to a wedding in a few weeks and I don’t have any idea what to wear! I’ve never dressed up really, I’m usually in leggings and a T-shirt. I’ve never been to a wedding so I have no clue to wear. I don’t want to dress up too much, so casual would be good. Anyone have any ideas??

Usually the Bride to be informs guests of the dress code and then you can get ideas from that.

What can you tell us about the bride, the wedding or where it's held, or does the invitation give any clues about dress? There is no one "right" way to dress; the context tells a lot. Is it being held in a place of worship, an event center, a park, indoors, outdoors, etc. Is it a formal Very Expensive wedding or a casual backyard gathering?

If the couple didn't give any indication of dress code, it's awkward. Sometimes you can get an idea from the venue: My cousin's reception was in the ballroom of a swanky hotel, so I knew it would be dressier than my nephew's, in a tent on a farm.

I think a glam version of your usual style, with velvet leggings (or some other fancy material, maybe faux leather), cute ankle boots, and a fancy top, could work for a lot of dress codes. Here are some ideas that might feel like "you". Also, Ms Maven posted in the forum recently about a couple kinds of velvet leggings.

You can think about what the couple likes too; if they've complimented you on what you're wearing a couple times, maybe you can do a "festive" version of what you had on then.

What information do you have about the wedding or the families involved -- did the invitation give any clues about what to wear, or where it's being held (place of worship, event center, backyard, park, etc.) There's no one "right" way to dress for a wedding --it all depends on what kind of wedding it is and what the norms are for the families throwing it.

If you know anyone in the wedding party or related circles— do ask. Next clues, as noted by others, are in the venue, season- projected weather temps.
And of course there’s the pandemic- mask issue! Coordinate!

Usually at the reception there is dancing, so wear comfortable shoes that you can dance in, and a mask. The wedding may not happen if the virus continues to spike. Be careful.
As to what to wear...maybe a dress over slim pants would work for you. E careful of color...not white or black. If the wedding involves a different culture, there may be other colors not worn, like red or green. You could wear a dressy pant outfit. I have a tan dress that I wear with blush or pink accessories to weddings. It has gotten compliments as being appropriate for the occasion. The dress is just over the knee, fit and flare, so it has som swish and works for dancing. The fabric is a woven textured blend. It is sleeveless but I have a pretty lacy tan or pink cardigan for modesty and warmth.
