An H&M has just opened in my city. I want to visit soon, but I know myself. I'm going to get completely overwhelmed!!

Has anyone been in there recently? What's really good at H&M right now?

I'm on the hunt for work-appropriate summer shoes, comfortable flats, bermuda shorts & clamdiggers, white jeans/pants and summery blouses I can wear to work. Do they have any particularly great versions of these items?

They have really lovely dresses, tunics and cardigans, as to footwear I think it has less quality.

They have now the "garden collection" with lovely summer patterns and colors.

Sometimes H&M has so many people buying that it can be overwelming, go early in the morning and avoid weekends!

Oh I am so jealous!! The closest one to me is 3 hours away!!

Go in with your list and see what they have of those items and also check out their spring/summer accessories to add some inexpensive zing to your outfits.

I agree with Rute -- unless your feet are content with any old shoe, I wouldn't look at footwear.

I think of H&M as a place for "of the moment" things that will be in style for a short-to-medium amount of time and that will hold up for about as long. (That said, the last thing I got there was a very classic, fitted jacket that actually seems quite well made.) Trendy pieces at amazing prices seem to be their forte, but you can be surprised. And the turnover is quick, so go often!

I second April - go often as the turnover is really quick.

But if you're in the mood for some guessing - check out the German Online shop: http://shop.hm.com/de/ Most of the merchandise is the same all over the world (a HM in China once had the same stuff -at almost identical prices- as the one in my hometown)

That's fabulous joha - I have just learned some German!

Neuheiten = new items?
Kleider = dresses
Rocke = skirts
Hosen = pants or bottoms (category includes leggings, trousers, shorts)
Treggings = jeggings
Mode fur Schwangere = maternity
Wasche = lingerie
Pullover = seems to mean sweater, including cardidans
Westen = vest

I was just at H&M on Wednesday (which doesn't happen very often for me!) The tunic selection was out of this world, but I am on a hunt for tunic. The store has different "sections" (this one does at least)- there is one that is geared more toward business wear. I would focus your time in that area for tops because I saw a lot of cute ones. Also check out their belts- stretchy belts are my new best friend. Have fun!

Oh yes Jenny, you`re right. And correct translations! "Neuheiten" indeed means "New Items" Sorry, should have thought myself about these quick translations. I think it was just to late in the night for that :-).

Some more translations:
"BiB" is the plus-size section, starting with size 16 (EU=44).
LOGG is the Label with more casual items
Sport- und Bademode: Sportswear
Pullover: all knitted tops
Kampagnen: special campaigns
Kurzarm: short sleeves
Langarm: long sleeves

Alles zeigen: show all

On the top are several more tabs:

Damen: women
Herren: Men
Divided: Young Fashion (up to size 14/42 - runs pretty small)
Kinder: children
Kosmetik: Cosmetics
Home: Home Accessories
Sale: well, we al love that, don't we

I'm not so happy with H&M's current collection. However, there is a FABULOUS sheath dress there right now. I can't remember if it's black or charcoal grey but I really really liked it. They are also having a sale right now and there is a lot of stuff for $15. As Khris said there is usually a "work" section in every store with blazers, pants, office dresses, and shirting.

If you like florals and ruffles, you'll probably like the Garden Collection.

They have good accessories too, and nice hosiery though I guess it's a little late in the season for that.

Avoid the Divided section if you want to be efficient. The clothes are really cheap looking and feel even worse.
