What shape am I?

Question: I am so confused and don't know what body shape I am! My shoulder width is 37 inches, bust 34 inches, hips 38 inches and waist being 28 inches, can someone please help to define what shape I am please

Hello Stacey Can you post a picture of yourself? That would be most helpful. Looking at your measurements, I suppose you're a pear or a hourglass, but a full body shot is necessary if you want an accurate answer.

yes, do post a picture of yourself in form fitting clothes standing straight to the camera...
I would guess though by your measurements that you are an hourglass.

I am looing for a photo, but I never would have thought pair because I have friends who are pears and they are like a size 12 in the bottom and 10 - 8 in the top with skinnier arms... I am same in the top as the bottom, size 8 - 10 bottom and 8 - 10 tops

Measurements are often deceiving I have 43" shoulders, 41" bust, 29" waist and 41.5" hips, but I'm a pear because of my large thighs. You don't have to be extra well-endowed to be a hourglass.

You don't have to be well endowed to be an hourglass, or have a terribly well defined waist. When you read the guidelines for the bodyshapes, which ones seem to be the ones that work best for you?

Stacey, standard sizes are a better fit for pear-figures than hourglass figures, usually. The eight inches the standard charts allow in difference between the waist and the bust is insufficient for the stereotypical hourglass. As an hourglass, I've always had to size up in tops to accommodate my bust. I can't see your photograph, but if your bust is only six inches larger than your waist, I'd guess you tend more toward the pear silhouette. Your friends may be more strongly defined pears though.

I have never used photobucket or the other one I do not know even what they are. I was readin up on pear and it says: Your shoulders will be narrower in relation to your hips and lower body. You will normally take a smaller dress size on your top half than your bottom half, and your bottom and hip area will appear curvier in relation to the top half of your body. When you gain weight it will be below the waistline; on your hips, thighs, and bottom, as opposed to your stomach and mid-section. Please be aware that there can be slim and fuller versions of this body shape. This is not me when I put on weight I put it on evenly all over and when I loose it I loose it evenly. Then I clicked on house glass and it said this: Your hips and shoulders will be balanced or in line with one another and your waist will be short and visibly nipped in. When you gain weight it will be evenly distributed all over the body. Please be aware that there can be slim and fuller versions of this body shape.

Malcontent is right - I'm a busty pear and I wear the same size on top and bottom, sometimes even clothes are too snug in the bust area while being OK everywhere else.

Where did you read that description? It's not from YLF, right? There are many long-waisted hourglasses out there.

Stacey, you should take a current photo of yourself straight on with your arms down and legs together wearing tight fitting clothes. That would be the best way to tell your shape.

One more thing, Stacey -- I think the measurements of shoulders vs. waist and hips have to be taken straight across the front of your body, rather than all the way around. It's width that matters rather than absolute distance around, if that makes sense. So if your shoulders and hips are about the same width, and there is a noticeably smaller waist in between, that would be hourglass. If your shoulders are narrower than your hips, that would be pear. Make sense?
