What seasons can I wear a black polished cotton skirt?

This summer I bought a black "cotton sateen" pencil skirt. In rpearly fall ive been Wearing it wih bare legs and closed toed shoes. It's a nice medium weight fabrication but I'm wondering if polished cotton should be put away once the tights and hose come out. What say you YLF?

That's what I do with my cotton pencil skirts. I will be interested to see what some others say. We also live in an area with 4 distinct seasons and a very cold, and sometimes long, winter.

I have a dress of black polished cotton and I have put it away for fall and winter.

I think you could always try it with tights and hose. Do you live in an area that doesn't get very cold? In a warmer area, I think you could wear it for longer.

I go by color palette and weight, though some things like linen are only for hot weather.
I've seen people wear summer weight corduroy in pastel colors and I'm on the fence.
I would wear a black cotton skirt in every season but winter.

I live in Va. That would be a year round skirt here, If you live in Maine, maybe not so much.

I would say it also depends on where you are planning to wear the skirt, and with what. I have found that the younger the people I with, the less I worry about the fabrication of an item per see, and the more I think about the impact of the entire outfit.
Is it a pencil skirt? If so, try pairing it with black tights, boots, and a chunky sweater, like in angie's post. I think that should make the skirt more seasonally right.

I think you can wear it into the fall if your climate is warm enough and then bring it back out in the spring. On a related topic, did you see the post over on Vivienne Files recently on transitioning a summer dress into fall?

Thanks folks! I think I'll try it with sheer hose, not tights, when it's too cold for bare legs, and put it away for our darkest winter, which isn't long here in Oregon.

Debora, thanks for the link. I'd read that post, but literal me, I didn't think to apply it to a skirt! I'm going to play with those ideas.

I agree, it depends on weight as much as fabric weave. If it's fairly sturdy I can imagine wearing it all year round, with tights in the winter. Our winters in NorCal are probably similar to yours in Oregon and I could probably wear most of my skirts all winter with tights and boots. I generally don't, just to have a change of seasons in my closet to keep things interesting.
