Hi Molly. I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking, but I wonder if you have the same problem I do with high necked dresses. Somehow they’re fine in their own, but add a blazer and something goes wrong. Either there is not enough neck showing, or there is too much structure on structure, as stiff, woven, structured blazer on top of a stiff, woven, structured dress.
Angie and Suz both have lovely long necks, so they don’t seem to have this problem. But I visually look choked sometimes.
My only solution is to wear one softer item with the structured one, so I don’t look so packed in there, lol! A drapey sweater with a blazer cut works well over a stiffer dress. Or one that is slightly more “cutaway” and leaves more torso visible. You might also try a long necklace to lengthen your neckline.
It’s funny, all I need is for my collar bones to be exposed to feel like I have enough space. It’s the boat, slash, and high crew necks that look too covered up when I add a blazer. And typically those dresses are sleeveless. So on their own, they show enough skin to create the “skin” kind of visual structure that Angie talks about. Good luck!
