Warning, long
So I did a bit of shopping over the weekend.
I had a casual birthday party Saturday night at a no shoes house. I felt I needed a cool shirt. So I went to Totokaelo and tried on a few things. As expected a lot didn't fit. My sales person pulled this Raquel Allegra shirt out of the back, it was only $33, left over from the sale.

I tried on these jeans, they fit and looked cool, but I decided to think about them

These, the white ones, in the same size I couldn't fit into, which is too bad because I really liked them

Using Yelp I decided to check out a few other stores in the area. Capitol Hill is an area I don't go to very often because parking is a pain, and the overall flavor of the neighborhood has changed.
I walked by a full blown sneaker store, one that sneaker heads would go to and blares hip hop, though I was happy to hear Missy Elliott. Basically not a normal environment for a middle aged white woman, and yes I come to realize I am middle aged. I had seen these Rhianna Fenty by Puma sneakers online and I really liked them, especially with the exaggerated tongue. Plus I know Puma fits me in generall. They sold out in many places online already, and though Nordies had them, my size was already gone. Some of the online stores were even final sale. I decided to try this store. They had all the colors in most sizes. I was able to try them on and realized I needed to go 1/2 size down. I knew the red while cool I wouldn't wear. I tried both the black and the white, seriously couldn't decide and ended up with both. I was also happy to support a local business. The sales guy was really nice and another woman who worked there was cool. Though given the clientele I saw I'm sure they were a bit bemused by me.
Saturday I had a hair appointment downtown, also booked a makeover at Sephora because I feel like I'm in a rut. I wanted a bomber jacket but I really didn't want to spend a lot of money. Nordies site wasn't promising as what they had in stock in my size, but I decided to go look anyways because there's way more in the store. I looked briefly at Via C and Space, but between price, sizing and selection nothing would work. Plus I was pretty much ignored. So I went up to TopShop, I really liked the pink one, very Pink Ladies from Grease, but my size wasn't in stock and I don't think they made my size anyways.
They had a burgundy one in my size, the very young woman helping me said to try the US 10, I was very skeptical of it fitting, it fit. I decided to try the US 12/UK 16, we decided it looked better. It's not really oversized, which would have been great, but I think an impossible find. Burgundy looks good on me, but I find hard to work with, plus it didn't seem springy. The olive wasn't in stock in my size, plus she pointed out everyone has olive. I found a navy one in US 12. I liked it a lot and she agreed it would work better. The navy one isn't on the Nordies site. Bonus I used a pile of points and got it for free.
I also looked at jewelry, all over. Elizabeth and James has new line of jewelry, cool stuff, but I couldn't figure the price versus material. Turns out it's gold plated over regular metal, not silver. Not worth it in my opinion. I ended up in fine jewelry. I found this safety pin based earrings, expensive probably overpriced, but at least real gold. I've been interested in small single earring given my asymmetric cut. Though I think in the future I'll just order from Wendy Brandes as her metal choices are better.
